As do you. Who benefits from the denial of the theory of global warming? I can guarantee they have much more power, money, and influence then the people who are pushing the theory of global warming. Do you believe for a second that the scientific community has nearly as much pull in Washington as Big Oil? What about the fact that the only 2 industrialized nations that didn't join the Kyoto agreement are the United States and Australia. Are they the only 2 countries that aren't being manipulated, or the only 2 countries that are?

Koyoto would kill America litterally kill America much to the chagrin of the Democratic party who could then lay the blame not on Koyoto but the Republicans. Smoke and mirrors Dio. Those other countries 80 percent would have reaped economic advantages. The others are gullible. There is your motive I spoke of. The left and all forms of media save talk radio would have created the smoke and mirrors that lay the blame of economic whoes on lowering of taxes or found some deregulation (in theory) to point at as the cause.

Are you retarded. The estimates I've read state that conforming to the Kyoto protocol for coal firing power plants would cost 3% of PROFIT margin. That's an easily attainable number. Acknowledging that we need to reduce CO2 and sulfur emissions from coal fired plants would go a long way towards solving some of these problems, but that's all liberal propoganda. The United States will not be sunk by the investment of capital into more efficient machinery and infastructure.

Your retarded for thinking that "The estimates" were accurate. Think Dio THINK if that were really the case the administration would have gladly signed on. What would they have to loose?

That really is the case, and big power spent millions lobbying against it. Do you know how much carbon scrubbers cost? Next to nothing.

Have not read the Koyoto proposals but have read about them and I understand like most agreements the devil is in the details.

No I do not know how much a carbon scrubber costs. But if it is large enough for industrial smokestacks and works as a cataylist much like your car using platinum I would expeck it to be pretty expensive and require a bit of maintenance. But that is relative to the potential advantage. Personally I think it would be a great idea.

If its that simple then why would the big power companies spend the millions on lobby attempts when it would be more simple to simply sign.

Al Gore and his ship of fools avoided signing the damn thing whats their motive?

The reason Big Power spent all that lobbying money was it was cheaper to buy out of the problem then it was to fix it and update their equipment. Like I said, it would have cost them around 3% of their profit margin for a year to fix the problem. That's still significantly more then spending millions on lobbying. Why do you trust companies, who are clearly out for their own best interests?

It's not that I trust them. They lobbied two administrations on Koyoto and its the administration that had the ability to push it through regardless. And neither signed..... why?

To much I do not know. I just think Gore is full of it with his movie and a lot of people are only getting one side of an arguement thats on really shakey ground as fact

Or, Gore is presenting his side of the argument to the public, in hopes of counteracting the effect that big power has had in Washington. Problem is the majority of people that watch the movie are going to be people who already believe what he's saying. The rest will brush it off as "liberal propoganda".

It is true that the Kyoto could be seen as slanted vs power-consumers w big land-masses.
The reason three% is to much, Dio, is that this part of profit is skimmable.

Where are you getting your information that strip mining is no longer being widely practiced? Last I checked it was still frequently being done. Not to mention other large scale operations that are damaging to the environment, like clear cutting and improper waste disposal.

Mostly being done in the Apalachian mountains. The state governments are willing to look the other way because of the huge amount of tax revenue the coal companies generate. It costs about 50 times what they make to clean up the mess though. When you cut off the top of a mountain all that dirt has to go somewhere, and that is usually a valley or a river, not to mention all the biodiversity that gets stripped along with it and takes many years to recover. I'll try and find some specific info for you. No need to take me at my word.

Yeah, but you're forgetting one primary, very simple fact. When you were a kid, you built towers and mountains too. Sometimes huge ones, sometimes no taller than your converse. At any rate, there was only one reason some build something that big... KNOCK THAT BITCH DOWN!! =-D Yeah, it's true, you love it. God made big mountains... we invited high yield explosives... coincidence?
