whoopass.. regardless of whether or not you support your troops and your country... why do you support an illegal war of aggression that was steamrollered into being despite the diplomatic and peaceful route showing signs of working?.. surely your patriotism is to the american ideals of truth liberty and justice.. or have you also been brainwashed into thinking greed arrogance and excess are virtues to be proud of

Look at who we are dealing with.
    Saddam has Attacked kuwait.
Had a 10+ year war with iran.
Destroyed all of kuwaits resources on his way out.
Attacked iraq people with weapons of mass destruction.
    And aided several terrorists groups.
And is willing to fight to the brink of his country's distruction.
Enough is enough,We tried the un way for a long time with little to no results.
What were we suppose to do next?

you reel off all these charges against saddam like it's oh so simple..

he had a genuine grievance against kuwait..

he fought iran to stop the spread of militant islamism through the arab world..

the kurds were killed by a chemical agent the iranians were using.. not the iraqis..

he offered money to palestinian suicide bombers.. aren't they just resisting against an occupying force?.. like the iraqis are now and the french resistance and russians did during ww2?

wouldn't giving up make him and his countrymen cheese eating surrender monkeys?

the un way has just made his country weak and easier to take over.. (or so your gov. thought.. didn't expect those ayrabs to fight so hard huh?)

next?.. this has been on the agenda for a long time..

try looking at some of the links in this thread.. it helps if you take off the red white and blue tinted spectacles

Please explain this "genuine grievance" and how it was justification for him to invade Kuwait. Seriously.

And please give a link or two that give more information on how it wasn't really Saddam who used Mustard Gas on the Kurds.

I think you're wrong but, if not, I'd really like to read more about it.

The use of poison gas and other war crimes against Iran and the Iranian people during the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war. Iraq summarily executed thousands of Iranian prisoners of war as a matter of policy.

The "Anfal" campaign in the late 1980's against the Iraqi Kurds, including the use of poison gas on cities. In one of the worst single mass killings in recent history, Iraq dropped chemical weapons on Halabja in 1988, in which as many as 5,000 people — mostly civilians — were killed.

Crimes against humanity and war crimes arising out of Iraq's 1990-91 invasion and occupation of Kuwait.

Crimes against humanity and possibly genocide against Iraqi Kurds in northern Iraq. This includes the destruction of over 3,000 villages. The Iraqi government's campaign of forced deportations of Kurdish and Turkomen families to southern Iraq has created approximately 900,000 internally displaced citizens throughout the country.

Crimes against humanity and possibly genocide against Marsh Arabs and Shi'a Arabs in southern Iraq. Entire populations of villages have been forcibly expelled. Government forces have burned their houses and fields, demolished houses with bulldozers, and undertaken a deliberate campaign to drain and poison the marshes. Thousands of civilians have been summarily executed.

    7. During the Iran-Iraq war, the al-Sabah family gave some $17 billion to Iraq. It saw the Iranian Shi'a revolution as a threat to itself, and so financed a long-standing Arab-Persian (Iranian) conflict. But it also had established farms and settlements over the Iraqi border. Most important, the al-Sabah family was also drilling in the Rumailah oil field. The Rumailah oil field is 95 percent in Iraq, but the al-Sabah family brought in the most sophisticated American oil-drilling technology to "slant drill" in its 5 percent of Rumailah while the Iraqis were unable to drill during the war (some of my Arabist friends were fairly sure there was an agreement about this: oil for financial backing). It sold that oil, at below OPEC prices, to Japan and the US (Kuwait has always played this role: increasing its sale of oil to the importers in times of crisis). The al-Sabah family by now was unimaginably rich, with an estimated wealth of some 90 billion dollars. They had invested about 50 billion dollars in the stocks of US companies.

    8. After the Iran-Iraq war, Hussein was increasingly isolated, politically and economically. He was some 60 billion dollars in debt from the war, and the West had cut off his credits after he had a British reporter executed as a spy. The West was also concerned that its overall strategy would be upset (see par. #5 above), since Iraq now had an army second in power only to Israel in the Middle East.

    9. Meanwhile, the al-Sabah family continued to slant-drill, and to sell to the West at below OPEC prices, despite Hussein's actions in the Arab League and protests to OPEC. It continued to deny him access to the Gulf. By now, Hussein was requesting the use of the unpopulated Bubiyan and Warba islands, to avoid having to use Basra on the Shatt-al-Arab, since he shared that waterway to the Gulf with Iran. Finally, the al-Sabah family declared that the $17 billion it had given Hussein was not a gift (or an exchange for the Rumailah oil, see par. #7), but a loan which must be repaid.[4]

    10. Hussein therefore began to think about using his armed forces to insist upon resolution of the border and monetary disputes. He threatened to do so about a year before the August 2nd invasion at OPEC and Arab League meetings; hence the now famous meetings with Robert Dole and other US senators[5] in April, 1990 and April Glaspie in July, 1990.

At that July meeting, less than a month before the invasion of Kuwait, Hussein complained that the borders of Kuwait and Iraq were drawn in colonial times, by colonial powers. Glaspie replied, “"We studied history at school. They taught us to say freedom or death. I think you know well that we... have our experience with the colonialists. We have no opinion on the Arab-Arab conflicts, like your border disagreement with Kuwait."[6]

Op-Ed article by Stephen C Pelletiere, senior CIA political analyst on Iraq during Iran-Iraq war, lays out facts in allegation that Saddam Hussein gassed Iraqi Kurds in Halabja in March 1988; says all that is known for certain is that Kurds were hit with poison gas that day, during battle with Iranians; explains that US Defense Intelligence Agency's report found both sides used gas during battle, and blamed Iranians for Kurdish deaths; notes Kurds died of cyanide-based gas that Iran, but not Iraq, had at time

*hmmm... nytimes has changed somewhat.. they're not letting you read the articles freely just by registering anymore.. seems you gotta pay now*

Henry B. Gonzalez was a socialist crook that practiced many of the stereotypes you associate with Bush. Think: "Big money developments for the people, lining his pockets the entire way. Note the slant on the article, and how it's always a conservative elected official that's committing the wrong-doing.

Good ol' Henry once punched a reporter in the mouth for calling him a Communist. Truth hurts sometimes, eh?

    Still, an interesting read.

It was announced today that Canada is now prepared to help the U.S. in the war against terrorism. They have promised to commit 2 of their largest battleships, 6000 armed troops and 600 fighter jets. However, after the exchange rate, that comes down to a canoe, 2 Mounties and a flying squirrel."
