I would really like to see a flat consumption tax. That would make it a level playing field for most of us. Well except the rich, it would still be in their favor, cause I am sure there would be loop holes, or limits, that we would never be able to take advantage of that they would abuse. But at least then the illegal money would be taxed too, no more 'under the table' tax free jobs..
It would also encourage saving and investment. They've been using it in Europe for years. It's a really good idea, which is why we'll never do it. It's simple, it's effective, and it encourages smarter buying.
You guys are making the perfect case for a fair tax. The corporate CEOs are bilking the rest of the nation as is also the government who doesn't mind because that way they win at class warfare and get their cake and get to eat it also.
I couldnt imagine getting my whole paycheck at one time and only paying taxes when I bought something. That would be excellent. But I am sure since there are so many financial institutions tied to the tax system they dont want to see taxes swing like that. Of course the states would have to add in their bit of tax on top of it too, but that would be a lot nicer. No more doing taxes, shut down most of the IRS, let us put money in tax free retirement, not just a couple of hundred bucks a week then, you could put in some serious cash then.
Suprisingly enough the two major players keeping the tax system the way it is are non-profit organizations (who worry that if you remove the tax write off people will no longer donate), and the mortgage industry (who would lose the sales advantage of making interest paid on a home loan tax deductible.) I say fuck them both. I want a simple tax system that taxes consumption instead of income. A value added tax would place the burden of taxation on those who spend the most, therefore putting your taxation entirely in your control. And then maybe these rich people would quit whining about the "huge" portion of their paycheck that's missing. I never really feel sorry for someone in a Lexus/BMW/Mercedes luxury (insert non-essential piece of decadence here) who complains about taxes.
Yeah Boortz used to have the complete Fairfax brochure in pdf format available for download. The debate has gone on for untold years in his circle and they have ironed out most all foreseeable complaints from any potential anti-fairtaxers. It’s very compelling. Personally I'm 100 percent for it. I believe I have the pdf let me search for it
I wonder how much the IRS costs per year in tax dollars. That would be an interesting thing to look at.
Its a huge huge burocracy (you know what I mean never can spell that stinkin word). He talks about the savings just from getting rid of the irs
