World Baseball classic is over. Won't be another one till next year. I don't think Cuba played though. They usually do well in the Olympics though.

I think it was Braves-Twins in 91, Toronto in 92, I think Joe Carter hit the winning homerun. But I dont think it went 7 games.

Yeah, Joe Carter hit a game winning walk-off. I think they were down 1 run, bottom of the ninth, game 6 if I remember correctly. I was either 9 or 10, so it's a bit fuzzy. I'm pretty sure Toronto did win back to back Series championships though, Joe Carter was a big part of it. I think John Olereud played on those teams as well. For some reason I'm thinking Brett Saberhagen pitched for them, but I don't know if it was the years they went to the Series.

They beat the Braves in 92, and the Phillies in 93. The only thing I remember about the 93 series is when Carter hit the walk-off homerun off of Mitch "Wild Thing" Williams (I could be wrong on the actual name, but I do remember him being "Wild Thing") and Williams couldn't throw strikes again the rest of his career.

The braves had a pitcher like that. He was the closer for a long time, Mark Wholers. Went through a divorce and he couldnt hit nothing, except the batter. It was fuckin sad. Then they bring in old Rocker, who was a good pitcher, but an idiot, and he did the same thing. When that report came out in SI his skills went to shit.

Yeah, Rocker was the shining jewel of baseball for a little while there. I remember the Mets fans throwing batteries at him. I also remember reading the article in SI, and SI getting all kinds of flak from readers for printing it. It all blew over though. I think it would have been hilarious if he'd been traded to the Mets though. Him and Mike Piazza chew the fat for about 10 minutes, and then a couple of guys from Brooklyn probably would have stabber Rocker.

There is just something about an idiot. Why is it when someone puts a microphone in front of some of these athletes they just dont know when to shut up.

It would have been hilarious if a team in Japan had signed him. LOL.

"I dont mind playing in Japan, except for all the crazy Asian drivers"

Yeah, maybe San Francisco could keep Benito Santiago and pick him up just for shits and giggles. Make him ride to work on the trolley.

I know I am kinda pissed off that AOL/Time Warner bought the braves. The fucking price of a beer is $7. Thats retarded. I went back when ted owned it and it was 4.50, not much higher than the average strip club.

Now you cant take a family to the game for less than 2 bills. Thats why I go watch the local single A team. They might suck, but the beer is cheap.

I'm suddenly glad I never took to beer. But, hey, you can try and pick the new comers, and you get to see the has been boys who have fallen from their Major League graces.

Sounds like an alround depressing time.

I think the best part of the minors is all the freakin stuff they do between innings. Stuff the bigs cant do.

Plus you are close enough to the field you can see everything in the game. Even from the 'bad' seats.

I'm with you on the minor leagues, phatso.

My local rugby league team, the Newtown Jets (Australia's first ever rugby league club), went bust in the 80s and now play in the "premier league", which is what our minor league is called. And it's fucking great.

You can go see them for like $5, eat a pie on the hill while you watch them, buy a ticket in the raffle for a meat tray from the local butcher, drink $3 beers ... heaven.

It's what the major league was like in the 70s. Apparently.

The Angels are still pretty reasonable. Between $10-$25 for seats, $4.50 for a beer. The only local minor league team is AA Lake Elsinore Storm. They're not much cheaper than the local pro team, so it's not worth it.

I like watching minor league teams more than the pros anyways. They play with a lot more heart. Thats why I go to UGA games and not Atlanta Falcons games. I went to one Falcons game in the last 3 years and I went to 5 UGA games just last season.

Luckily, I'm close to Angel Stadium. When I was younger they had Rex Hudler, who was all heart. Now they have Darren Earstad and Vlad Guerrero, who are pretty passionate players. Both of those guys love the game. Angels games are fun to watch. I used to work at the stadium as well, as a peanut vendor. That was a fun job. Watch baseball and throw peanuts. Really can't beat it in terms of job satisfaction. I'd work 2 hours, make about $120-$150, and catch a game. Good times.
