I'm not gonna indulge such absurdity. I've stated my position, and explained it as clearly as I'm able. I haven't flung hyperbolic misinterpretations of your own words over your NWO pet theory back at you, so I don't understand your need to do the same.

*Most muslims are just like us and just want to have a nice quiet life - if only they were allowed to.

quote:
Originally posted by Emetic:
Right. It's the extremist whacko ones we're concerned over.

...one man's extremist is another man's freedom fighter. You have to address all the issues concerned. What you fail to address as well is that america has been at war with the middle east and islam for many years now. Every week, for example, people are bombed in iraq, not to mention the thousands killed every year by sanctions. The Palestinians are being killed by american weapons....I could go on and on.

    *the americans helped..overthrow a progressive pro-communist government

quote
    - I am not talking about hindsight here. I had 20/20 vision at the time. Who supported the resistance apart from the west and its craven media and most of the gullible brain-washed idiots who know and care nothing about that region? Which Arab countries supported it apart from the puppets of the west such as Saudi Arabia and Kuwait? Afraid you are really showing your ignorance here.It was everything to do with the cold war and nothing to do with the good of Afghanistan or its people. But there you go that's American foreign policy for you.

    * the taliban and bin laden are actually a mirror of the americans

quote
Look professor I don't have time to write a dissertation on it. Suffice to say that bin laden and the Taliban were funded, trained and armed by the CIA in order to fight the russians. Need I say who your bin laden is - what about madeleine albright for starters who said that the deaths of iraqi children is a price worth paying

*bin laden turned on...the americans when he saw them allowed to use saudi arabia...as a military base...

quote:
The offense to his extremist religious views is a given. But also bear in mind the context: we didn't invade S.A. - we were invited in to hammer back Hussein's grab for Kuwait. Also remember that bin Laden in his homeland was considered an unwelcome whacko agitator who eventually was invited to leave. At the outset of Kuwait's invasion, bin Laden offered his services to the King to battle Hussein (like a garage band wanting to headline their own Miller Lite summer tour or something). Instead, we were called in, snubbing bin Laden who gets his prominent nose out of joint before being kicked out of S.A.
While not discounting his religious quibbles, that's what I think was the final straw for him - plain, simple envy and loss of face in his homeland.

Obviously, you dont know the first thing about Islam. Anyone who had the slightest respect for that religion or the slightest interest in not being on the receiving end of terrorist attacks would NOT base a western army in Saudi Arabia - just believe me, I know what I'm talking about. . But perhaps that's the whole idea - to demonstrate that they are the masters of the Islamic world. The fact that the Saudi regime invited them there is neither here nor there since they are just puppets of america.

    * its actually the americans who are the fanatics with their penchant for dropping bombs on people in far off lands

quote
Oh, you mean like the turkey shoot on the road to Basra when they massacred fleeing Iraqi soldiers or the air raid shelter full of civilians in Baghdad they bombed or the sheep and shepherds they bombed last year in Iraq? Or maybe you mean the train full of civilians they bombed in Serbia or the television broadcast station again in serbia? OK, that's all right then. I will remember that the next time somebody drops a bomb on me.

    * i would feel a bit happier...if it was being done through...legal diplomatic channels in consultation with other countries ie through the United Nations

quote
Well it used to work before the americans undermined it (it was actually one of the americans' best ideas as they were the ones who dreamt it up in the first place). Why should they listen to other countries now that they are the only world super power. Jaw jaw is better than war war. Of course it was flawed like any human institution. Still a helluva lot better than dubbya. You see, I am a great believer in law and order...its a weakness of mine.

*brain-washed populace who believe all the propaganda that is fed to them by the lying media..but not to the starving and dispossessed peoples of the world robbed by the americans and bombed into the ground by them

quote
Well tell that to the starving millions of the world. What a smug stupid ignorant person you are. Probably overweight and very well fed as well.

*really we should addressing the original crimes that america is guilty of

quote:
Hmm...y'know, when you put it that way - I think you may be right! Just perhaps all the many thousands of people who were killed or injured on 9-11 deserved it, those fucks. The U.S. is a blight on the world, isn't it? bin-Laden is a fucking hero for showing us the error of our evil ways, and when we find him we should pin a fucking medal on his chest & buy him and all his crew blowjobs! Yeah-h-h-h!!

...and you accuse me of hyperbole! I was talking about your government by the way.

I hold little respect for any religion - to me, they're all 'opiates of the masses' (ooh, I'll bet that Marx reference got you wet, didn't it?) - fairy-tales and theories to explain the unknowable. But I hold Islam in no lower esteem than any other.

Correction: a little lower, maybe - I detest the look of those ugly, unkempt full beards.

So is it fair to say that, in your eyes, the nations of the Arab world can be divided into 2 categories as regards the U.S.: those with hostile intentions; and the rest, our puppets?

quote
*sigh* I'm pretty much done with you - because all I hear from you is "America this, America that, fuck America, brainwashed idiots, imperialist murderers, blah, blah, yadda yadda".

I'm devastated, because you should know by now how much your opinion means to me.

Can one be the former without being the latter? And just WTF does that have to do with the discussion anyway?

Tell ya what, cunt - since you're so interested in what I look like, I'll give you the pleasure - done it before, will do it again - but let's first see you provide a snap of your ghastly visage. You brought it up, you go first - either shit or get off the pot.

And where are you posting from anyway? Care to name the country?

If it was indeed Osama bin Laden who was responsible for the attack, I think that if he were to openly admit it, the Taliban would no longer be able to protect him. At this point, there is a lot of spoon-fed speculation, but ultimately there will be enough evidence (manufactured or otherwise) to make a case for bombing the hell out of Afghanistan or Iraq or whoever. The important thing is that whatever we do, we need to have as many countries behind us as possible. Judging from the outpouring of emotion from abroad, we have a good shot at forming a global coalition as long as we can keep our cool and not jump to conclusions. Anyone who is not convinced of this should go to

I am not referring to some mythical UN resolution either, because everyone knows that they have no real power. If it were just the Pentagon- ok, at least that's a military target. But the WTC was filled to the brim with civilians of all races and creeds- sure to outrage the masses. I personally believe that the people behind this calamity waged war with the full knowledge that we would come after them with both barrels. That they want to be discovered, in much the same way that serial killers do. If you don't get caught, you can't take credit; and those factions have been waiting a long time for an excuse to launch a full-fledged jihad. They are just waiting for us to make the first move. Certainly, they have gained nuclear capabilities by now, albeit limited ones. Neither Afghanistan nor Iraq ever ratified the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. A worldwide alliance might deter them from using them because there would be too many targets to have to worry about. But we would be naive to think that they would never use them in vain anyway- and stupid to ignore the very real biological weapons threat. Desperate people do desperate things, especially if they think there is some reward at the end for their martyrdom. I just hope they've underestimated us.

BTW there has been a lot of talk in the forums about Bush Sr's policy during the Gulf War. Let's not forget that he was the director of the CIA long before he was president. Sort of brings our post-Cold War woes into focus doesn't it? We built up Iraq to fight with Iran after the Ayatollah Khomeini held all those hostages in Iran in the late 70's, funneled money to Afghanistan in the 80's to fight the "godless" Soviets, and then there's the Iran-Contra scheme... Of course, at least the elder Bush knew what the hell was going on- can't say I have the same confidence in Dubbya.
