This entire forum is a threat to national security. You all know too much, and are far to hard to deceive. I have no choice left but to activate the death rays, and destroy the servers that host this cesspool. Say goodbye everyone. I have activated the count down to Armageddon.

I'm no fan of Ayatollah Khomenei, but it needs to be said that the quotes above attributed to him are distortions and mistranslations. And even if they weren't, 'Ayatollah Khomenei' ( or 'Osama Bin Laden') is no more synonymous with 'Allah' than 'Jerry Falwell' is with 'God'.

Every positive value has its price in negative terms...The genius of Einstein leads to Hiroshima.

What is the price of god?

I suppose it varies depending which website you look at. I only used one source so I am not arguing with yours.

interesting comparision with Einstein and the Abomb there. Reminds me of what oppenheimer said "I am become death, destroyer of worlds", and was quoting a hindu scripture, I believe..please correct me if I am wrong.

By the way, I am not looking for traditional various scriptural interpretations of whether or not God as ya'll perceive God is an asshole or not..there would be plenty of evidence to support the fact that he is if that is the fact.

Rather I am interested in your own personal beliefs and interpretations if GOD AS YOU UNDERSTAND GOD (NOT AS OTHERS DO) is an asshole or not, and if so or not, THEN to back it up with some references, resources, footnotes, or personal experiences to back up either opinion.

By the way, any religion can be perverted..by twisting it, or EVEN by taking it literally..does that make God inherently evil? or man inherently evil? or God inherently evil by CREATING man as being inherently evil?

    just curious.

I take my personal experience and (holistic) view of reality first, and then appropriate what i consider the relevant aspect of that with the term 'God'. I could call it anything, eg. 'Ultimate Truth', 'Mr. Flappybangwanjo' etc., but you get the idea. The difference is that most people do it the other way round...by taking someone else's term / definition of 'God' which doesn't fit their own experience of reality, which they then reject for obvious reasons ('chucking out the baby with the bathwater'?), or they attempt to shape their reality to the definition. (Though sometimes another person's definition will tie in with your own personal experience). So, i do 'believe in God'. And since it's reality, and its 'me' (albeit on a scale / dimension generally outwith my normal day-to-day ability to perceive)...i have no problem with it.

Nursey, yup, yer a UU like me..cus that just about summed up how I feel on matters..

I already knew what I believed, THEN found the UU church and discovered it reflected it beautifully. Now I have a place I can go (even if it's only online cus the nearest church is too far away, so I'm a member of the online UU church) to grow and develop spiritually and find fellowship and learn from others without being told what to and what not to believe or have anything rammed down my throat. It's a very refreshing experience.

I find Buddhism to have some very fundamental truths, and am also interested in Sufism, but recently have been taking online courses on Judaism. :) If I may ask, nursey, where have your spiritual travels been taking you recently?

The last UU service I attended had a terrific sermon that used Peck's "The Road Less Traveled" as a guideline, and was really fascinating. Are you able to or do you attend services regularly?

My kids are Christian, and that is their faith and I have no problem with that. Both go to different Christian churches in town.

If she's referring to Universal Unitarians then I think you might have the wrong idea, Nursey-poo.

I've only gone the one time, and Jesus, sin, how to live your life was never addressed nor mentioned. I sat there with my wife holding my hand on one side and our girlfriend holding my hand on the other and no one blinked an eye. It seemed to be more like a theology college course.

wow ...sure did get ya all riled up there nursey..sounds like ya got some 'xtian' issues like I used to have..used to be real prejudiced against Christians due to some bad experiences...that's why I'm not one, but I am learning that Christians are just people too, albeit some of them are some 'righteously' fucked up people. ;)

Last time I attended a UU service was about two years ago, but their online place is pretty neat. So I guess Barry gave me the wrong impression about you being a UU too then I gather? :p

Quite frankly, i'm apalled, Bungle-lily. Have you people got no morals? Why, when you have your woman and she has you does some other entity's tongue and lusty flaps have to come wedging itself into your perfect balance of dark and light energy human sexual vortexuality? What is she? Some sort of parasite that wishes to hook herself into the divine synergy of opposites in order to suckle the force that she is incapable of generating for herself!? Are you a bunch of wild, rutting fornifuckatory goats or something!!? It might be time for you to request God's cleansing spiritual enema before your soul is cast into the bile ducts of the beast, where those who are slaves to the flesh are dissolved before making their way to the firey faecal pits of hell. I thought you were such a nice boy too.:|

so then you think that more than a duo upsets the yin yang balance or something, nursey? or is it more that you are too selfish to share? :p
