Well Banner was a "sissy", he's a dorky scientist, and he hates the "monster" inside him and all that jazz, he trys to prevent the Hulk from ever becoming and more so he doesn't want the government to get a hold of the Hulk....and he loves whats her name...Betsy Ross.... if you have a few minutes and care enough the first few paragaphs of this sums the hulk up, the earlier years are far more definitive than anything else... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hulk_(comics)
Finished the movie the other night. Completely satisfied. It was everything the other one could've been. Granted, I lost interest in the first one after the first half, and never finished it, so who knows?
