Sen Al Franken passed a bill recently that prevents employers from putting an "anti-rape" clause in their contracts. A woman (Jamie Leigh Jones), was working for KBR; a subsidiary of Halliburton, when she was gang-raped while working in Iraq by co-workers. She was then stuffed in a crate when she tried to complain about the assault. Back in America, she tried to sue KBR but couldn't because of a fine print in her contract that prevents her from taking legal actions against employees.

The bill, fortunately did pass with a vote of 68 vs 30. All 30 nays were made by republicans who wished to "keep government arbitration out of private contracts".

What do you guys think? Did partisanship go to far? Or is it a legitimate claim that "big government is bad for business"?

Try again and tell the truth this time and when I say that I mean the whole truth and then we can discuss this responsibly.

Have you heard anything different? If I recall correctly the vote was indeed 68 to 30. It is also true that those 30 were republicans. I don't know about you but it's hard to find a justifiable reason to vote against that bill. It clearly states that "it will remove the right to include provisions to which effect an employer can include a clause in a contract that prevents an employee to take legal recourse against an employer when victim of sexual assault in the workplace". I don't know if the entire story about stuffing Jamie Leigh Jones in a crate is true, but that's the whole point of the thread; to hear some opinions on it. I didn't realize I had to flatter someone else's point of view to engage in a discussion. By the way, I think that bill was a no-brainer, what harm can it cause? I only see safer workplaces and better rights for women. Why did they vote against it?

All I asked was for the whole truth not an itemization of true points. Along with a thinly veiled admission of a gross exaggeration. I want the rest of the story. Come on you formed an opinion so what is it you have so solidly have formed this opinion on?

Is your whole and sole opinion about this legislation that Al Frankin and his Democrat cohorts respect women while mean Republicans who disrespect women are beholden to the corporate machine?

Need I remind you of the various Kennedy white trash scum who regularly rape and kill women with reckless abandon? Should I point out Bill pedophile and all around pervert Clinton? Why are these people not prosecuted for their obvious crimes? Jessie Jackson what about him?

You liberals love to enact new laws and put a great deal of trust in the court systems to use them against people you disagree with while at the same time giving absolute immunity to anyone of the liberal mindset.

How about a bill that punishes liars?

Especially highly organized liars with an agenda to smear ideological opponents?

The Search for the Wikipedia Libelist
    Ralph Alter

Thanks to an intrepid blogger with the tag Trapdoc posting a letter to Mark Steyn, the search for the Wikipedia Libelist responsible for damaging posts to the Rush Limbaugh account has been narrowed to the IP address of a New York City law firm:

The firm provides a wide array of legal services with a broad spectrum of politically correct causes served:

Considering Rush's militant political incorrectness, there may be a large number of potentially culpable attorneys and/or staffers to choose from. However, a forensic data retrieval technician should surely be able to narrow the focus and identify the likely poster. Perhaps Rush can enlist the aid of PBWT alumni, Rudy Giuliani, Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau or firm partner, Edward F. Cox, (son-in-law of former President, Richard M. Nixon) in his search for justice.

There is no question that Mr. Limbaugh has been damaged by the salacious quotes added to his Wikipedia profile and their dissemination in the PC-stream media. Hope this helps, Rush.

How about this chick not reading and understanding the contract?

Is it the governments fault that she didnt read and understand the contract? Is it the governments fault that the 'incident' happened? No.

It is her fault for not reading and understanding what she signed. It is KBRs fault for not handling the situation properly. That clause is in the contract so when you go over to Asscrackistan, or Iraq, and get killed your family cant sue KBR for your 'untimely' death.

I think those guilty of the crime are the ones who should be punished. Not KBR. KBR didnt assault her. Saying it's KBRs fault is like blaming McDonalds for making you fat.

I also liked the way your socialist mind posted the 'poll'.

Protect the public from whom? Themselves?

So should the government also protect us from alcohol, guns, cars, motorcycles, sky diving, skiing, swimming, sports, foods cooked with saturated fats, processed sugar, cigarettes, asbestos, UV Rays, lightning, spiders, snakes, sharks, lions, tigers, and bears?

I mean, lets get real. People shouldnt be responsible for themselves in no way right? The government should provide total protection for everyone, free healthcare sounds good too, huh?

Lets be brutally honest. The 'government' cant protect people in THIS country from criminals, now you want al frankin and his queer bunch of liberals saying that the government should be able to step over legal (legal as in legal in the eyes of the LAW) documents so a person can sue in AMERICA for a crime that happened in another country?

Sue a company that in no way had anything to do with the assault that happened, that in no way sponsored or condoned the action?

Come on you're making this too easy... You said I use a "gross exageration" while posting this thread... But you accuse the Kennedy family of rape and murder "with reckless abandon"... As far as I know, no Kennedy has ever been accused of murder by anyone... Or to say that former president Clinton is a pedophile is also a pretty bold statement considering that there isn't a single trace of evidence pointing to that... I find it somewhat hypocritical that conservatives always point the finger at liberals for being "immoral or perverted", may I remind you of a certain sen Larry Craig (who by the way pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disordely conduct) caught in a bathroom solliciting gay sex? Or what about rep Mark Foley resigning after being caught sending love notes to boys? It is an overused tactic of the republicans to point the finger at liberals and accusing them of rape, murder, and all around perversion. I think the saying goes like this: don't cast a stone in a house of glass. The facts I just enumerated are verifiable through multiple sources including the Washington Post, New-York Times and court documents. next time you want to attack a democrat on the grounds of immorality, you oughta do a little research first; it would ad a little credibility to your statement. I was expecting a heated but intellectually satisfying debate. Instead what I got was just the run-of-mill rumour rehashing and below-the-belt attacks. Oh well... maybe next time you will take your facts from reputable sources rather than listening to the dirty, scruffy old homeless guy yelling at night about conspiracy theories... hehehe

well in my opinion the bill serves to protect people from companies that use complicated lingo in their contracts. try this: suscribe to any e-mail provider like hotmail or g-mail and try to read through their entire user's agreement and policies... you'll see how easy it is to slip in a clause. the companies do that to slash their costs with liability insurance.

it's not about the government protecting people... times change and the government has to go along with it... you know back in the 30s it was not uncommon to see children exploited in plants or mines by companies, the government had to step in to protect the children... it is not uncommon for a government to regulate the business practices of companies... it happens all over the world and it is needed... if you leave it in the hands of CEOs and fatcats to regulate themselves nothing is gonna get done... the bill causes no harm to anyone... it just makes sure that sexual assault is punished... it has nothing to do with sky diving, cigarettes, guns, whatever... it was made specifically for sexual abuse... don't you think it's a bit unfair if your sister or girlfriend/wife gets raped in the parking lot where she works and she can't take the guy to court? all because she doesn't have the major in law needed to be able to understand the complex contract lingo... think about it... it's not about suing the company... it's about suing the individual...

Fuck Fucking Al Fucking Franken, the fucking fucker. The offense took place in Iraq and should go through the Iraqi court system, it is out of the jurisdiction of the U.S.
I bet she was asking for it, the filthy trollop.

I see you haven't read the post in it's entirety. There is no official prosecution from any government. It is entirely being done as a civil suit. maybe if you weren't so busy writing insults to Al Franken and cursing, you would realize that you're undermining your own position. But then again you're probably 16 years old and came back from getting picked on at school. Grow up.

You sir, are a fucking moron and didn't research the subject enough. Here is a quote from a news article on the amendment numb-nuts. What are you, in love with that failed entertainer Franken? There should be a law against ex entertainers being senators and congressmen.
Why didn't you mention my calling her a trollop? afraid it hurt your self-righteous position?

In April of 2008, KBR employee Dawn Leamon went public. A few months earlier, she had been raped and sexually assaulted by co-workers while deployed at Camp Harper, in Iraq, and after weeks of being pressured not to report the incident, forced to work alongside her attackers, and medically neglected, Leamon brought the story to a Houston attorney and to The Nation. Leamon joined a slowly building chorus of female defense contractor employees who'd been raped or sexually assaulted by co-workers while in Iraq, to utter impunity on the part of their assailants. In response, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee called a hearing to investigate why the Justice Department had not prosecuted any sexual assault allegations in Iraq since the going to war in the country.

    Fuck you, You fucking fucker.

    Seriously what the fuck.

Seriously what the fuck is this? I finally had time to catch up with the news and hear about this "amendment". Well all I hear is the "liberal" side. Me being a libertarian (liberty and the free market) I wanted to see the "conservative" side of this issue.

So I search "truth al franken conservative point of view bill arbitration" and I get this ; http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/1151/searchresults.jpg so I click on this forum site I never heard of. I was horrified to read the utter bullshit of a response and the amount of accusations that have no relation what so ever to the subject even being discussed. Answer the fucking question. Your fucking "right-wing" logic makes no logic. Its not even exercising individual rights when you defame with no evidence. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. (don't use any bullshit internet crap to argue against it, because its a basic principle of life)

I was actually compelled to use* my time and create an account just so I can fucking reply to such an ill-conceived response that so disgracefully exemplifies "failure's" need to become stratified into groups. Which also disgraces the principles of America and the principles of humanity.

And just to get something straight, we as a nation was founded on the basic rights of "life liberty and the pursuit of happiness". We are not guaranteed happiness", but we sure as hell have the right to try our very best to be happy. And being locked out from freedom of speech and being forced into Jones' situation, is... well if you don't fucking get it your absolutely retarded.

Just in case here's a simple version for your pea-sized brain. You buy an ipod and start using it without reading the terms and agreements (no one does...) It basically says "you can not sue apple or any of our employees" somewhere in the pages of text. So Big Bubba (apple support) rapes your ass... So fuck you.

~Radical Center and a proud American (no nation better on earth)
Support the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

P.S. Nothing is wrong with Canada when you compare it with Islam...

Damn Joe.... someone signed up to the site just to tell you to fuck off. You're becoming the anti-hero of the fugly forums! Congrats!

On a different note, most politicians are dirtbags regardless of their political party.

Jesse Jackson is a common thug who strongarms people into giving him things with the threat "I'll brand you a racist!"

Bill Clinton, while not a pedophile, can certainly be called an adulterer.

The Kennedy family has been accused of rape of numerous occasions. But no one will convict the "Royal Family". And while it may not be murder, Ted Kennedy most definetely commited manslaughter when he drove his car off a bridge and left Mary Jo Kopechne to drown. But being a Kennedy, he was allowed to write his own police report on the incident.

Larry Craig is a degenerate fag. Plain and simple. I don't wanna hear any excuses for him. If you think he has a wide stance, then you are a retard and I will no longer respect ANY of your opinions.

Mark Foley is a fag.... but not a law breaking one. So he sent some love notes. Big deal. At least he didn't fly to Thailand on our tax dollars to bang little boys.

Just accept it. Democrats and Republicans are shit people. One day when people are finally sick of the garbage we are forced to choose between, the Libertarians will make their stand and give us back our country!
