old style 16-bit console games like zero-wing were great.... non of this accomplished FMV intro crap for them... oh no!!.... it was 2D manga style pseudo animation all the way!!!
Ahh!, do you remember when we all thought "Elite" was the dogs? Waiting around for an hour for the fucking thing to be "realtime" and take you to another planet, flying around in a wire frame box! Ha Ha Ha, run that against Unreal/Half-Life/Black and White to name a few, and you start to see how things have moved on. All your bases are shite! More beer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i used to really enjoy being mesmerised by the blue/red and d.blue/yellow lines for half an hour while waiting for a spectrum game to load up as a child... i enjoyed it more if the loading crashed when it was nearly loaded because someone had turned up the volume on the tape deck that served as your portable storage medium back in the golden age of home computing....
