Her name was J****. She was a pretty 22 year old and she wasn’t from around here, but her fiancé (who was 7 years older) had moved here to take an employment opportunity. She visited him several times in the few months he lived here, but their long distance relationship wasn’t working out… they had different work schedules and he was a cheater. He cheated on her several times and she must have caught wind of it because one Friday night she decided to drive 5 hours to for a surprise visit. She checked into a local motel and found him at a bar. He was surprised to see her (he was with his new girlfriend) and they argued. Once the argument was over, she went back to the horseshoe shaped bar and had a drink. Across the bar was a local 21 year old former high school superstar athlete. He bought her a drink and asked her to dance and they danced one dance and returned to their seats. He claims he went to the bathroom and when he came back, she was gone. Patrons of the bar claimed they left around the same time. Her fiancé remained in the bar for another half an hour before leaving. According to her fiancé, he stopped by the bar on his way to work the next morning to find her car in the lot and he left her a nasty note accusing her of whoring around. Two days later, he called the hotel she had checked into and questioned the desk clerk about when she checked in and told the clerk that he had just called her parents’ house and she was not there and requested her belongings in which he was denied (upon an interview with her parents, they claim that he never contacted them). Subsequently, her parents had reported her missing and her body was found 12 days after she was last seen in an abandoned theater. She had been beaten, raped and strangled.

Several months later, the local guy that she was seen dancing with was arrested, charged and later convicted of her murder. He served 5 years in prison and was released after his conviction was overturned due to the fact that the DNA evidence that they had against him was consumed by the FBI and was not able to be cross-examined.

Okay, the DNA they had was basically a small blood stain found in the defendant’s car. This blood stain was not found the first time the car was sent to the FBI, but the second time after the local police ripped out the carpet. Apparently the reason for this was found during their investigation, the defendant had his car cleaned the day after her disappearance because he had deer meat that had thawed and he wanted to it cleaned up. According to the attendant at the car wash, he examined the area very closely to make sure it was clean. The other piece of DNA was semen and in 1987 they couldn’t extract a DNA profile like they can now. If they still have this evidence lying around, this case could be solved. I really should contact the police department and see what can be done… anyway, the DNA was that of an AB secretor and the defendant was an AB secretor. The blood stain was a very rare type and the victim had this very rare type of blood. These are the things that got the guy convicted.

I can say that the local guy got out of prison, married, had a kid and still lives and works in this town. Either he has major balls or has no reason to run. As for her boyfriend, he literally has addresses all over the nation. Seems like he’s running from something… his past maybe? I would like to find the son of a bitch and confront him.

But I see the local guy at weird times… I can think about him and see him… or think about her and see him.. I saw him on her birthday and the night before the 20th anniversary of her death I saw him and he turned and looked right at me. I sometimes wonder if they are signs, but I am not convinced that he did it.

You see, when the car was found by the police in the parking lot of the bar, her purse, coat and keys were in it. What kind of boyfriend sees all of these things and doesn’t immediately think something is up? Also, the bruises on her face were consistent with a left handed attacker. Her boyfriend was left handed. He would also have more of a motive than the local guy. Before her body was even found, he called his ex wife and told her that J**** had killed herself. The police NEVER searched his apartment and he was friends with the sister of a local detective’s fiancé. And in this small town, the local guy could have very well have been framed.

There is a lot that I am leaving out. I know so freaking much, that my mind can’t put in in a logical order. I have spent hours and hours at the library and even managed to track down her ex sister-in-law and talked to her about the rumors in which she dispelled… not to mention I have spent many sleepless nights thinking about this. I am very obsessed with this case for reasons unknown to me.

I feel like I am being biased. I’m not convinced that the local guy didn’t do it. His testimony and actions are definitely suspect as well. The only theory I have that would give him the motive was that he was very drunk (he had a lot of alcohol to drink that night) and saw that she was leaving, followed her to her car and asked if she wanted to party. She blew him off (the only reason she danced with him was to piss off her bf) and he became severely pissed, and drug her into his car. Her shoes were found in the parking lot, so she was without a doubt, abducted. Maybe he hadn’t intended on killing her but went too far and freaked out and dumped her body. The body was found less than 10 minutes from his house and less than 5 minutes from where her boyfriend at one time worked.

If anyone is interested, fire me some questions and I may have answers, but be serious about this. This is why I posted in COLD SOBER.

    Thanks.

Sound like a project for a novice P.I. to get involved in wet his feet a little and mayby earn some credibility points by helping to solve a cold case.

The case looks pretty grim I must say. I wonder if there is anyone here that could help.

sounds like you put together the right (or most logically correct) answer already, 'Occams Razor'

Jealous Ex - Angry/bitter, knew her whereabouts more accurately.

    Left Handed

A spot of the victims bood doesnt mean much, she could have had a minor skin bleed/nose bleed, or something else that bled a drop..
PS A drop is being defined as in free fall, creating an almost circular 'spot' where as if blood was moving in quantatity, with any reasonable force during a struggle, it would have made elongated droplets and lines.

However, there wouldnt have been much of a struggle if the victim was drunk.

    Some things need consideration:

    Was she drunk
    Was she drugged
    forced entry
    signs of struggle

Use Time frames of all testimony and events on a timeline to visualize

The 'meat' story sounds like a coverup.

Maybe this is isnt one or the other, The answer is actually looking to be a cooperative effort. After she blew off the second guy (just to piss off the first guy) something could have happened whereby they conspired to get back at her, a moment where 2 guys shared the same level of contempt for a woman that acts in this manner. One of them could have got her drunk/slipped her drugs and initiateded the abduction, the other could have taken over.

I need a lot more info before I can make that assumption anyway. another note, some clinical psychopaths/sociopaths have the characteristics of lying, and of calmness, if they did work together, then it could be that the worse of the two is the one getting on with it, and being calm, and the one who was possibly an accomplice or feels guilty is the one hiding.

Perhaps they only wanted to teach her a lesson, but something went wrong causing a fatality.

See the problem is your looking at way to many angles of the case. You haven't given us locations names or anything else to go on.

    1. How far was the abandoned theater were she was found from the bar?
    2. Did she get cold feet and come to her sense while the new guy was in the bathroom?
    3. Did she decide to leave the bar knowing her ex was still in with his new lady?
    4. Is there a homeless population in this town or a few? Was there railroad tracks near the bar were Freight trains carrying hobo might come thru? Traveling vagrants are known for these types of crimes.
    5. Was all the violence committed at the theater or was it a dumping point?
    6. The blood in the mans car was there a lot or just droplets? If just drops it could confirm his Deer story.
    7. The most obvious answer is always the boyfriend. But the girl he was with that night is the key to the case. She is the one who needs to be spoken with. She is the one who can break the case for you. He was either with her or he wasn't she has no reason to cover for him unless she helped.

She had two mixed drinks. She was 5'6 and 110 pounds, so she was pretty tiny. She may have been tipsy, she may have been cool. She had a brand new car. No one is going to leave their brand new car in a parking lot with the keys in it. Especially in a strange town. And no woman is going to leave her purse and coat. It was late Nov. and it was really cold. Someone pulled her from that lot... or she went with someone willingly, and they placed her belongings back in her car... the bf perhaps when he was writing the note? There was a security check about 10 minutes after she allegedly left. I'm not sure when the shoes were found in the parking lot.

I think it's one or the other, but not both. I don't believe that they ran in the same circles and didn't know each other. It could also have just been a perv in the bar that night.

Local Guy: The meat story is odd. He also states that on the way home, he got sick and puked in a blanket in his car. Why he didn't get out is beyond me. Two days after her body was found, they found a blanket with what appeared to me vomit in at the crime scene. At first I thought this was a smoking gun, but then it sinks in that they find this two days later and after he had given his testimony and then it seemed that it was planted there. Co-workers state that when he came back to work, he appeared to have "dig marks" on his hands. He claimed it was from repo-ing a satellite dish, but the only dish the place he worked for repo-ed was a week before she ever went missing.

Boyfriend: Something doesn't sit right with me. In the past, he had physically abused her. This testimony was given by a friend of her's in the trial. He was acting strange after her disappearance. Drinking heavily and asking several women out on dates. He also left town a couple of months later. The FBI did a profile on him and the results lead you to believe that he is totally capable of doing it. He also failed the polygraph.

If the BF was cheating on her, and out with another girl, then I dont think you can call him 'jealous', mean psycho maybe, but it doesnt seem like he was too worried about it. Cheating and remorse, would meant he did care for her, but to have another girlfriend would leave me to believe he was probably planning on leaving the other chick anyways.

If the local athlete was pretty popular in the town, he too would have the clout, or connections, to get out of it as well. One drink and a dance hardly qualifies as 'blue balls' so I couldnt imagine someone being so torn up by a girl walking out on him after so little time together, plus the athlete would probably have some standby anyways.

It's unfortunate but it seems like the local pd didnt put in the due diligence in this case. The 'disgruntled' boyfriend and shunned athlete are pretty obvious options, I think grims idea about the hobo could have some merit, guy in the parking lot sees a girl stumbling out of the bar, probably crying, easy prey. He catches her at the door to her car as she opens it, or gets in with her on the passenger side and holds a weapon on her, makes her drive somewhere, commits the crime and then uses her car to dispose of the body. 12 days is a long time, did anyone come forward saying they had been in that area just days before they found her and she wasnt there, or was the car noticed at the end of the night when the bar closed, employees usually notice left cars, especially if the keys are in the ignition.

The boyfriends habits after the death is suspicous, but is he drinking trying to forget about what he has done, or is he drinking feeling bad about cheating on her and then losing her?

If there was a history of violence with him assaulting her, then why would she come 5 hours to see him, not just on that night, but on others? I would think that would be her out, when he moved she could have used that as an excuse to break up with him.

I dunno. When I was 22, I was in a similar situation and the guy was extremely jealous... Like psycho jealous. He tried to be in total control over my life but at the same time, I find out that he is cheating on me. So I think she came down here to confront him and break up with him. According to her mother, she was going to end things.

I thought the jock would have some clout too. His dad was a big wig at a bank, but ended up losing his job over it. So maybe the cops had it in for them? There have been rumors that a cop did it anyway which is why I am leary about contacting them. I don't feel like ending up dead.

The cops did nothing but try to find someone fast. I can't believe they didn't search the bf's apartment or try to find the place where the assault took place. I really think it was across the road. The softball field sits way back from the road and it surrounded by woods and no houses. You could easily take a car back there and not be seen. And when it was over, you could drive across the road and dump the body because it wouldn't be noticed right away.

I think the place where she was found was signifcant. Her bf had at one time worked 2 miles down the road from where her body was found. So he was familiar with the road. The jock lived a couple of miles away and grew up on that side of town. You see, the bar was at the north end and her body was found on the south end of town. They pretty much function as two separate cities.

The defense stated that the jock wouldn't have dropped her there because he knew that teens hung out there and that her bf wouldn't have known this because he just moved here. But her bf used to worked as the manager at a fast food restaurant, so he worked with teenagers and more than likely knew about it too. It was on the same road for crying out loud!

Her body was found by two guys using metal detectors. They looked in the window and saw her. The scene: Her skirt had been pulled up on her legs and the blouse had been pulled up on her chest, along with the bra, which was pulled up on the chest. Two other articles of clothing (a jacket along with a pair of panty hose) were found near the body. She had been beaten and raped but the cause of death was strangulation. Her adam's apple had been crushed, her skull fractured, her jaw broken, and her liver ruptured. The FBI stated that the type of beating (mainly to her face and shoulders) that she endured meant that there was a high plausibility that the she knew or was at least acquainted with her attacker.

Were was this? There was around 32 active serial killers at the time of the killings between the years you gave. A location can help greatly.

Did she have any bad relationships before the recent boyfriend? An ex that might have known she was coming to town or might have been at the bar that night?

That kind of crime seems like a crime of passion, or a genuine hatred for the person. The jock may have 'accidentally' killed her, but it would have been quick, if he was just trying to cover up a rape. To beat someone like that, usually the victim knows the attacker pretty well, the boyfriend/ex boyfriend is a good suspect, he doesnt 100% want her, but then he doesnt want anybody else to have her, the fact that she probably told him off, in front of his other girl, and then was dancing with another guy in the same bar could have sent him over the edge.

The new girl is the enigma. What type of girl discovers that her boyfriend, has had another girlfriend for some time, to the point of being engaged, still wants to go out with him? Not down the road, but the same night all the info was spilled. Most women, in my opinion, would probably be like, "You dirty SOB take me home", not "hey lets go party and screw".

The victim, not sure why she would hang out at the bar she found him in. Why not go to another bar? Or just leave at the least. Not saying that's an excuse for her to get killed, but I would have spoken my mind and then drove 5 hours back home.

it's so difficult when there's something you desperately want to know and can have no resolution. this story reminds me of twin peaks.

i have to agree with phateo about the crime of passion thing. i can't see the jock doing all of the beating and crushing.

i can see the bf doing it - maybe he did want her and was just passing his time by while they were separated. i can remember one boyfriend in particular that went insane when i ended things .. man, he was scary. in fact, i've recently had a friend who scared me so much i changed my cell number. (no barry, not you)

    did you know this girl?

No. I didn't know her. I was 9 when she was killed. Someone mentioned it a couple of years ago and for some reason, I knew when it happened but don't know if I really remember hearing about it when I as a kid or it was just a coincidence, but I got obsessed.

She also had a little boy who had to grow up without his mother.

She got married at 16 and divorced two years later. They both moved on and he got re-married around the time she went missing. I don't think it was him.

Was it shared custody or did she have soul? Killing over custody of a child is a motive.
