Of course this has been common knowledge for years but not really talked about in political circles at any real length.

But now out of nowhere finally someone took this to federal court. I believe if I understand correctly. Apparently there were a few Amerigas employees refusing to dole up dues that they did not want to go to something that they did not believe in. One was such a stellar employee she had been employee of the year twice. The union moved to have them fired. As it turns out the Judge did not agree.

And with this new ruling forcing unions to disclose where there money goes to assist political groups finally what was common knowledge to people like me will be common knowledge to most of the country. At least the ones that are not comatose.

Claiming to be an "independant" is social compliance.

If it walks like a Republican and talks like a Republican, it must be an independant...

Ferine in a lot of ways your right and given the choices I have on a two party system I vote Republican 90% of the time. I have issues with independents like Jeffords now there is an example of social compliance. I'm more the Pat Buchanan type of independent and the Barry Goldwater type of conservative. If the Republicans would be more fiscally conservative and also get some backbone and not cave to the media pressure on things like judicial nominations. Maybe I would officially call myself one. Give me another Reagan to lead the party and I’m there. Personally I think 85% or better of the party are being blackmailed by the Dems. I mean there was a reason for those ~1000 FBI background check files. .... Ah personally though I'm trying to take a break from the whole politics thing. Enjoy life a little more.

And the new pic ... wow!

Am I to assume that you're in favor of corporations being required to report the same information to their shareholders?

Sure Dio, which would be great.

In the end the corporations are driven by shareholder money and share holders should be informed. Are you assuming there not?

doesn't matter if they are informed, the decision is made by the board, not the shareholders. Why should unions be held to a different standard?

Look Dio its like this the corporations always were required to disclose these things.

It was the unions that got to do it in secret.

I think its great this small level of transparency. Its still not totally enough.

While the board does get to make what the share holders see as a stupid or a wise decision. It's up to the share holders to protect there interest and dump there stock or buy more.

Insider trading though now there is a valid complaint. But Dio the post was about a good thing and that is the unions having to disclose where there money goes would you not agree that is a good thing?

sure that's a good thing, but no one was forcing those workers to retain those jobs, or to pay the dues they were paying. Corporations are in the same boat. I don't think either of them should be allowed to dump any money into politics. If they're constituents want to give money, let them do it, not the organization. The level of transparency is irrelevant though, the elected officials make decisions in both cases, but unions never forced anyone to vote any way, they merely dumped money into the party that supported their interests. Corporations do the same thing, just on a much greater level. But no one is taking the corporations to court, and that bothers me.

Putting money where you believe your interest is best covered is your right. For the most part we are on the same page. I have serious problems at times with corporations. I have serious problems most all the time with unions. Taking there money influence from both on one hand would be fine by me. We must consider that to an extent freedom to use your money is like freedom of speech. It’s a perplexing problem. Not all is perfect we could ramble on forever on this.

Class warfare propaganda works well to ingrain into people that any person, entity, corporation, whatever is successful is the enemy. I simply do not buy into that logic. Cooperation’s are sued all the time. Common knowledge says if your going to sue someone choose someone with deep pockets (lots of money). The largest group of benefactors to this would be trial lawyers. This very problem is why there is a need for tort reform.

What the hell are you talking about. Who's pedaling this class warfare propoganda, the liberal media right? What a load of crap. If people don't want to pay union dues because they don't support the union, then they leave that job. Union officials are elected by the union in a democratic process. Corporations are run by the extremelty wealthy, at least the big corporations, the ones that dump billions of dollars into government lobbying and elections. If everyone believes that corporations and succesful people are really all that evil than why is there not a giant backlash against these people. Not a whole lot of communist running around anymore, are there?

Yeah, that's pretty much it. If you don't want to support the union, and you work in a union job, then you either give up that job or support the union. Sort of like if you don't like the government of the United States, you have 3 options. You can refuse to support the government, by not paying taxes, and deal with the consequences, you can leave the United States, or you can vote for change.

Have you ever worked a Union Job. Once every election cycle you have to elect your union officials. I don't know where you're getting your information about unions from, but I bet it's Fox News. Fair and Balanced, right?

I don't even see what you're refering to as wrong here. The grammar, perhaps my use of big words like lobbying and elections? Are you trying to say that corporations don't dump billions into lobbying and elections funds? Because if that's what you're saying I would appreciate it if you would start wearing a foil hat, so that everyone knows not to talk to you.

No way, that's communism. That's so Un-American. You make me sick.

Seriously, I don't understand what they're bitching about. If you don't want to pay union dues, and you don't support what the union does, go and find a non-union job. If you don't think the benefits of having the union out-weigh the evil of the unions political contributions than get a non-union job. I hear wall-mart is hiring.
