And I figure someone should mention this... Tarentino (we all know who he is I hope) Rodriguez (Sin City) haved teamed up to make a horror movie, well a double feature so two horror movies called Grind House. Both directors are well accomplished and I look forward to seeing how this turns out. I will post more info as it comes up.
Its about fucking time QT got back on the horse. I was begining to think he was going to make a living presenting movies.
Update The movie Grindhouse has lost the house, now entitled Grind. Tarentinos part is going to be a zombie segment called "Planet Terror" and Rodriguez part will be a slasher segment called "Death Proof". I'm really looking forward to see how Tarentino tackles zombies.
That's how Tarentino operates. He's one of the biggest film geeks ever, and he's seen just about every movie that there is to see. All of his films are amalgamations of his favorite scenes from that particular genre of film. Listen to some of his interviews sometime, he admits to it. The one that comes to mind right now is the bible reciting in pulp fiction, which is taken line for line from another movie called "City of Fire" (I think, I know it's word for word, but I'll find out for sure. I'll get back to you on that.). Even the intro to Kill Bill is a throwback to the old Chop Socky films from the seventies. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, good composers borrow, great composers steal.
And the character that trains everyone in KB Vol 2 is an old villian from many a kung fu movie of the past.
Dusk 'til Dawn was great. I laughed so much in that movie. Especially when Sex Machine's gun came out of his groin.
Yeah, there's many examples, including the Hatori Hanzo references. They're all over the place if you know the history.
That's interesting, I knew he as a film buff (most directors are I guess) but I never noticed any direct correlations. Thanks all. Is City of Fire worth checking out Diogenes?
Just for the reference. You're not going to feel like you missed out on anything for not having seen it, but it's decent. It's worth the 5 bucks for a rental.
Speaking 09f Tarintino, or was "Jakie Brown" a bad movie. It seems at the time, every b-rate ex Alist actor, wanted to do this film, looking at what Pulp fiction did to travola, or Resiviour Dogs Did for Harvey Kitel and Steve Baschmi
I didn't like Jackie Brown when I first saw it in the theatre, which was a lonnng time ago. But I just watched it again a few weeks ago and I was really impressed, I don't remember what I didn't like about it and now I cannot say enough good things about it.
I've been posting here for awhile, so its against my fugly nature to talk about on topic stuff on page 2 of a thread. . . . . . but I fealth like DeNiro's character was better suited for Kitel. Like, that would have been Kitel's character in the movie, but QT had his rep and his budget.
Tarentinos next project is this. But it has currently been put on hold. Budget issues is what the rumor mill has been putting out...
