I have been spending quite a bit of time in Africa with my work, and I have grown quite fond of the place, I have been thinking in recent months of settling down there (long story short, I met a great woman with a great love of Africa) in the short time I have been treking across that place, it grabs you and takes hold in ways you can't honestly imagine or phathom. I have learned how to surf (poorly), how to avoid being tracked and eaten by various large hungry predators, eaten all kinds of awesome food, and met some incredible people.

I found a plot of land about 500 acres, not that far from Capetown, the plan is this, if the relationship works out, she is a doctor, I would want to build a clinic for her to ply her trade to the farmers and town folk, while having a working farm, ( I was raised on a farm, I know the work involved).

I have never really settled down anywhere, I have lived and continue to travel and move all over the place, this is the first time I have even entertained the notion of settling down and putting my feet up. The only thing is this why in Africa? Have any of you moved to new lands to settle down? how do you find it? how do you find being in a relationship?

This is picture is similar to what I am looking at buying (but with out the vineyard):

I will be interested in the responses and advice.

    Cheers!

I bet I could sit around a campfire and hear you tell stories about your adventures for hours ... hell daysfor that matter. But regarding the idea of purchasing a slice of that paradise. I dunno there were a lot of white settlers who bought into and homesteades in Rodesia (I'm sure I spelled it wrong) and as you know Rodesia no longer is. How could you be sure what you have or broke your back making into your own domain. Would not be taken right out from under you?

Wow... That's some beautiful land. You'd better buy it now before some nigger gets a hold of it.

***Just kidding!!! (about the 'nigger' part)***

That seriously is a beautiful tract, I'd love to see landscape like that someday. It sounds like you've found a satisfying vector to pursue, and I wish you the best of luck.
