A few days ago, one of my company's managers lost his 16-year old daughter in a car crash. She had no seatbelt on. Another car involved in the crash held four passengers, all of whom were wearing their safety restraints, and all of whom walked away from the scene. I'm not here to preach, but even if you're too stubborn to put it on yourself, make your kids get in the habit of wearing a seatbelt. That is all. The frivolity may now resume.
I lost 3 good friends a few years ago, the driver had misjudged a corner at high speed and they hit a tree, all belted, no intoxication or other factors. Still means you should wear a seatbelt, because, sadly, shit happens.
Unfortunately, seatbelts aren't always safe. Car accidents are horrible and a reminder that life can end at any moment and tomorrow isn't promised.
While I can appreciate your message, I have to mention my experience... I rolled a Ford Ranger sideways 4 & 3/4 times once, both the passenger and myself were not wearing seatbelts, and the vehicle was a '94 (one year before airbags were mandated for trucks, hence - it didn't have them.) We both walked away from it, a bit shaken, but without injury. If you're driving kids around, you're probably going to exercise a bit more caution than I did that night, and the most likely 'accident' you would get into would be a collision - so you're probably right on the safety belt issue. I just can't help but think of the physics involved in the rollover - I probably would've snapped my neck (or spine) in half had I been wearing mine at the time. That, and I think there's some sort of guideline for if you're transporting children... If they're under a certain height, they have to be in a car seat, and in the back seat. If you have no back seat, and have no means to turn the passenger airbag off, the removable car seat has to be strapped in backwards. Or something like that. Damn, that reminds me, I think I left my kid tied to the bumper before I left the day care this afternoon...
People would click it behind them before wearing it. I knew guys that would wear them on base (back in the day it was mandatory on an Army installation before it was law everywhere else) but as soon as they'd leave the gate, they'd take it off. It may rub your neck a little but not as badly as a windshield would. My wife doesn't like me wearing them because of my life insurance. I'm worth more to her dead.
Just out of curiosity, would you be offended if I took out a life insurance policy on you? Desperate housewives comes to mind. I see an investment opportunity here. ;D
I think I remember hearing barry say somewhere that the Maj's wife was kinda hot. I might need to move to Alabama and drive recklessly, of course I would just get Barry's donated lisence plate before driving crazy in Alabama...
I am sure that she was hotter before she got her official membership in motherhood and the gated community.
I have watched that video twice now. I makes me angry every time. Talk about stereotyping and staging a video. No way in hell that was real.
That was a great episode of Top Gear, and that was infact very real. There are no Rednecks like Alabama Rednecks!
??? You honestly think that was not staged? ....Really? The owner of the station would have lost the station and the identified culprits caught on video would be charged. It is called a legal system. I posted it because ...I dunno for shock effect I guess but that was so obviously staged. What is alarming is the idea that others would be so very easily convinced it was not staged. This proves Barry's point of how effective false stereotyping works. Trust me I have some serious southern roots. And I know people deeply embedded into the "good ole boy network" so to speak. At its worst and in its most secluded border town where not to much surprises. With half the town on government assistance and 15 year olds screwing each other like rabbits (and staunchly democratic also btw). At the worst you would not see that. And if there was something done trust me there would be no footage. To believe that footage was real is to say the least naive.
The main reason I think it was staged is because of the three get you killed slogans" on the car. "I'm bisexual" "I love Hillary" and "Nascar Sucks" wouldn't raise an eyebrow here. You MIGHT get a brick through your window by saying something about Bear Bryant. Otherwise, I can't think of anything people around here really care enough about to actually risk going to jail. Oh, and NASCAR does suck.
