Been doing a bit of thinking lately. ~20 hrs. shy of a BA in Biology, and I'm rethinking my original plan. I'm actually considering becoming a teacher now - apparently there's a need for Science/Math teachers in the public schools here, and the state will pay your tuition to become certified, and give you a chunk of change a year to do it, too. They double that when you start teaching, but here's the catch - you have to teach in a 'high-need' school for three years first. I have enough trouble waking up for my current 12:30 work shift - I could just see myself being fired the first week for not making it across town by 7 in the morning... We'll see what happens. I get along with kids - really! That one time with the duct tape and the rolled-up sock was just an isolated incident! Honest! Seriously, though - I don't think I could ever teach high school. Dealing with all those fucking punks when their hormones kick in for the first time would likely get me arrested. Best to deal with these children while their minds are still fresh and impressionable. Ideally, grade school would be my first choice, maybe I could make the subject interesting enough to inspire some of them to pursue it. Plus, I speak their language! "Teacher! How do you get to the minus level in that OLD Mario game?" "Why, billy! It's simple! Just crouch on the pipe and while jumping, and..." Who am I kidding? If they ask me about Pokemon or Bey-Yu-Gi-Blade-Oh (or whatever the current thing is), I'm screwed. Just something I've been considering for the past couple of weeks. Oh well, more random thoughts from a diseased mind... Happy holidaze!
Screw that. I say get your BA and Biology and then get a big fat graduate school stafford loan and start a Masters in Chem engineering or start a PhD in Chemical engineering and I think most schools pay your tuition and give you a stipend to live on. Same for Biochemistry, Physiology except for those you would have to work at a University. With designing drugs and things with Organic chemistry you can probably get a job with just a Masters for a pretty good salary.
