I was waiting for someone to post this. I think GM was just screwing Saturn as the bequest of the UAW who despised the Saturn branch of GM. Saturns were/ are good and profitable cars so the joke is one them IMO. Penske stock on the rumors of the Saturn acquisition has gone up majorly since March especially in comparison to the rest of the market. Interesting indeed. You know according to the dealer I got my wife's car at Saturn was considering the truck market. Maybe I'll wait it out some more before getting a truck for the Saturn edition? http://simulator.investopedia.com/stocks/q.aspx?s=PAG
They've always carried crappy resale value, maybe the Penske Acquisition will lead to higher resell. I am not buying another vehicle for a while.
Imagine a truck with plastic side panels now how cool is that? Saturn Aura was the car of the year for two years and then the Chevy Malibu was the Chevy Malibu is just a Saturn Aura with a Chevy bow tie on it. The UAW dragged down all the American manufacturers reputation into the dirt. That and I believe they engineered cars to be profitable after selling them what with repairs and all. I'm watching this Penske deal I hear people that work for Saturn are ecstatic Saturn originally was service oriented no price haggle cars. When they started becoming more popular then GM's other union lines GM tried to make them like their other branches. Saturn people are anxious to get back to where they were before.
I read something about that a long time ago. Companies designing cars that would need repair work so that they would also be getting the repair dollars. Honda and Nissan have two parts that need replacing every 60k miles or so. Timing Belt and Water Pump. You change those two things you are golden. The oil change is optional...
I think you have it the other way around. The Aura is a Malibu with a Saturn emblem on it. Malibus have been around since 1964 with about a 15 year hiatus in the 80's - 90's. Fuck Saturn and fuck GM since they did away with Pontiac, they can all go to hell. And fuck Nissan and Honda too.
Ok not going to argue but I think the Aura was established with Saturn while GM was either not using the Malibu name or the Malibu was a different model and now the Malibu looks exactly like ... hell is exactly like the Aura. But yeah Fuck GM, Ford, Chrysler. Nothing wrong with the rice burners they support real Capitalism and are therefore superior. Unfortunately.
They are both built on the same platform, but the Malibu was built on that platform first. I see what you are saying. They really started to look a like when the Malibu came out in 2008. 06 Aura 08 Malibu
Yep and its a rock solid drive train Car of the year several tears in a row. even Consumer reports likes it. Not bad for American made. I'm a fan of Saturn cars I was a fan of Chevy cars but with the bailout ... fuckem they made a deal with the devil one time to many. I do not want to buy anything from Government Motors.
That's just like the pontiac solstice, and the Saturn Sky. Identical cars priced the same, so whats the point? Instead of focusing on one thing they try to branch out into a ton of different things. If Saturn was going to be the 'Cheap' GM car that's what they should have stuck with. Affordable cars that would last 5-7 years and bam. If you pay 14k for a car and it lasts you 7 years (from New) you are more likely to buy another one. If you pay 25k for the same car and it lasts 7 years, you are probably not coming back. Kia took a great approach. Cheap cars that had functionality. So what they arent the prettiest things on the road, but when you are riding around with Cold AC and Power Windows, who cares?
GM has been making two of everything for a while... like the pontiac 6000 and the celebrity, the cavalier and the sunbird/sunfire... the cobalt and the G5... the list goes on and on. I can see the point. When you compete with yourself, you'll always win. Someone recently made the point that GM shot themself in the foot when it came to trucks. Ford touts themself as the #1 truck seller, but if you add up GMC and Chevy sales, it would actually make GM #1.
Yep. Especially when the only difference in the two is the front facia. Ford has been running that ad for like 22 years straight. "The number one selling truck in America for the 22nd consecutive year..." That's GMs fault. I have always liked Pontiac and GMCs styling over their cousins at Chevy.
