Either the dutch have an extremely low cost of living, or Spoon lives in the hood. Do they have ghettos in Holland? Or is that strictly an American thing?
Heh . .20 M2 living space 4 m2 kitchenette .. shared shower & bathroom .. Now tell me thats cheap .. Oh yeah . .xluding everything . .
Holy crap. Doesnt sharing a bathroom get a little interesting when you are 'flogging the dolphin'? That isnt cheap. Here, in the south, you can get a 2 or 3 bd apartment with 1 to 1.5 baths for about 650.00 a month. But you can also rent a 1400-1600 sq ft. house for that much too. Some of the larger homes go for upwards of 1200.00 a month (Never understood why someone would rent for this much because you could buy a 200k house for less than that monthly payment).
We believe in letting our animals run free . . And I know its not cheap. . Thats not exactly true actually . . it is cheap in holland . .it's the cheapest I could get. . and it is in a sort of slum. . ( yes we do have those over here, though I doubt they're as bad as in the US . .) A 2 bedroom appt with 1 bath would go round €800 - €1000 ex. .
An efficiency, which I believe what you're talking about, around here goes for around $700 - $800, well depending on the area. But yeah, that's cheap. My rent for a two bedroom townhouse in Alabama was $425 a month, here the mortgage for a 4 bedroom townhouse is $1600 a month.
I will gladly stay down here in the 'poor old south'. My aunt lives in Vienna, outside of DC and I have no idea what she paid for her townhouse. But she actually bought it. I didint know you could do that, but they are starting to sell them down here that way too. She lives about a block from the metro so she just walks everyday to the metro. Which I have to say, is the nicest subway/rail system I have ever been on. I live in a pretty decent sized city, but not many people live in the downtown area. Its pretty old and they are doing a revitalization(SP?) project to get people to move back down there. The only thing down there worth visiting is the strip clubs, but I think the 2nd shift at the Waffle House is where the talent comes from. So no real reason to move down there.
Yeah they sell them here too. It seems all they have room to build around here anymore, townhouses and McMansions with 3 feet between them. The sprawl is forcing me to go country.
That's the wiser choice. You can only put so many rats in a cage before one of them flips out and goes crazy.
