So many different micro brew brands out there its hard to decide what you like but one thing I know as a general rule.

It's my impression that the dark beers dehydrate me more and give me a headache. There are exceptions but as a general rule. Pale Ale on the other hand is more refreshing when doing battle with this Texas heat. So for me it is usually about getting some kind of pale brand and drinking from an ice cold mug.

There is my contribution to beer and I'm curious what others think.

    Light beer or dark beer.

Light or Dark is a complicated question. I think that the reason you feel dehydrated is a. because you don't drink enough water, b. because you're drinking too much beer, or c. you're picking beers based solely on color and clarity and not on what matters more- sugar and alcohol content.

It's a myth that 'dark beers are stronger' Guiness is dark as night but has only about 3.2% alcohol and very few calories. It's lighter than most 'Light' beers.

Take a Belgian triple, on the other hand and it's very light, but loaded with sugar and has a super high gravity (high gravity is a way to say it has a high alcohol content.) You use an instrument called a Hydrometer which measures the density of the beer and gives a measurement of the alcohol content. Higher gravity equals higher alcohol content.

What I've found is (and it looks like you have too) is that a perfect balance is a strong Pale Ale. Moderate to high gravity and tons of flavor with not as much sugar left over after fermentation to produce the dreaded hangover.

Beer is simple Just water, yeast, malted barley, hops and sugar. Some times not even sugar. The sugar is either added or comes from the malted barley and is eaten up by the yeast in the brewing process. The byproduct is alcohol.

Some recipes add too much sugar to achieve a high alcohol content and some of the sugar is left over. Sugar+alcohol+dehydration are what cause a hangover.

Try some more Pale Ales or IPA's and see how you like them. And drink a glass of water now and then and you won't have any problems in that Texas heat.

You'll have all sorts of other problems with Texas, but hangovers won't be one of them :)

What's Mexican Beer considered? The only beer I could tolerate was Corona or Modelo?

Guess Modelo is dark and Corona is light.

No good beer has ever been produced in Mexico.

Corona/Modelo is just a 'Mexicanized' version of Bud.

Don't waste your time on that crap.

Find a shop that sells micro-brews and read up on good beer. You're not going to find anything good from any mass producer.

    I second that!

    Gentleman Jack or green label.

Stay away from the George Dickle till they have some decent aged single barrel since the fire a few years back.

And then there is Kentucky Bourbon. My pick used to be Makers Mark as the best but I have a half gal. of it right now that I am not impressed with. I used to swear by Makers Mark.

If you're going for booze, you can't beat Jonny Walker. Black not Red. The Red is harsh and bitter but JW Black is delicious. I've tried Green and Gold too (never Blue because I can't afford it, although I've sent a couple bottles to friends as gifts).

So yeah, in my opinion Jonny Walker Black Label is about the best you can get for your money.

John, Jack Daniels is what you drink when you want whiskey-dick and want to get in to a fight. (that might be right up your alley though.)

That shit is poison, plus it's from Tennessee, which pretty much negates it as far as a real bourbon goes.

Everyone knows that any real bourbon is from Kentucky.

I just got back from the motel bar. I'm drunk as fuck on Jack. I'm amazed I'm still able to type. Think I'll download some porn and jack off. My name doesn't carry as much weight as it used to. Columbus sux.

I think Martin posted on his profile once that he enjoys Steel Reserve (in 22oz cans) and Crown Royal.

Crown Royal is what you drink if you have a Guns N Roses tattoo (Schmed, no offense because I think you might actually HAVE a GNR tattoo) and Steel Reserve is about the worst, ghetto-ass malt liquor you can buy.

Dwaine has adopted Steel Reserve and I fear some times that it led to his health problems.

Just to be clear, DON'T DRINK THAT CRAP. That shit will kill you.

I have backups of all the old databases and am working to re-build your account. I don't know what happened that your account was set to inactive but I'll fix it pretty soon.

BTW, me, Martin, Harlan, Mike Williams, Jesse, Depraved Killer, Sarah, Kimmy Su, Martha, Otis, Madamme Borkofski, Bobby Peru, L.T. Jacson, Frank-6, and The Honorable Malcolm Jamahl Washington X Mustafa are all headed to the wonderful, White Trash capitol of the World, Ocean City Maryland this Saturday for our yearly get-away. I'll update you all on our adventures.

My first real alcohol buzz was red label JW... or it was Canadian Club. I can't remember. I went from whisky to vodka to tequila to wine to gin to rum, back to wine and quit.

I doubt I have ever finished an entire bottle of beer in my life (can't take the cabonation), but I would drink an entire bottle of wine with no trouble. We have this local winery in WV called Kirkwood Wines and it's pretty strong for wine. I think 12-13%. I don't know if you can get it in MD, but if you ever want to drink some Koolaid and get drunk, that's the stuff. You can't taste any alcohol in it.

I used to hammer the tequila (only the clear, not the gold) until it made me puke 6 times one morning and I never touched it again. I think that's pretty much everyone's story though.

Now my esophagus is too eroded to drink. Last time I drank, my chest felt like it was on fire.

Tennessee-Whiskey, Kentucky-Bourbon, and if your desperate enough to drink Scotch and can afford it ask for something pronounced "Glen Levit" But I know that’s not how it’s spelled. ;)

I think the only reasonable conversation I ever had with Nursey and Pimp was regarding a Scotch with a name that sounded like “Glen Levit” ….. or was it “GLEEN LEAVEEET ARRRRGH” *My best Scott-Pirate impersonation*
