i cant install my DSL on my computer b/c it has windows XP and XP doesnt like the PPPoE driver, so i have to use my 56k.
just wanted to bitch.

i have been checking for driver updates from my DSL modem manufacturer...

Why did you fork out for XP? Give it six months and it'll be half the price. And check with the manufacturer of your DSL, they'll have probably put an upgrade to the driver for XP, unless you bought it from taiwan charlies for $10.

but i fixed it last night and there was nothing to download. i didnt need my DSL installation software at all, which i found very odd.
now i have to worry about tweaking for speed...
1500 for anything faster than 56k - thats fucking crazy. if it was like that here, i would probably be selling my ass on the corner to pay for my DSL.

 

I dunno then, you can try windows update for an updated driver, but if they had one they probably would have shiped it with XP. Still it's worth a try.
Taiwan Charlie is a guy who sells all sorts of cheap crap. A mate of mine bought 10 Ethernet adapters from him for $20 each, turns out they were all pirated from the same chip and had identicle ARP addresses, they all thought they were talking to themselves and so wouldn't broadcast onto the network.
And it's all very well downloading it for free I Murder Children Violently, but i live in a far away corner of the globe where it costs around $3000 a year for anything faster than 56k, so I'm sticking to my modem for now, and a 600MB download would take me about 3 days.
