I'll admit, I've been a NIN fan since it's inception, but lost a little faith after "With Teeth"...

Honestly, I didn't even know there was a new album coming out, but I saw it at the store the other day and picked it up. If you haven't heard it yet, get it. I've probably listened to it all the way through 12 times so far - don't think I've ever done that with a NIN album before. This could quite possibly be Reznor's finest work thus far, and apparently it's only the beginning.

I also happened upon some info on the net about the way Reznor decided to promote the album, and it's ingenious. Check out the Wiki article on the album and follow the link to the "Year Zero (alternate reality game)" page after you're done.

Highlights from the first article include how Reznor left USB drives containing one song each, and a piece of the puzzle he's created, in three different bathroom stalls during concerts from his current European tour, how the RIAA has issued orders to remove content from sites hosting the intentionally leaked songs, and Reznor's quote:

"The USB drive was simply a mechanism of leaking the music and data we wanted out there. The medium of the CD is outdated and irrelevant. It's really painfully obvious what people want — DRM-free music they can do what they want with. If the greedy record industry would embrace that concept I truly think people would pay for music and consume more of it."

What started out as a damn fine album is turning out into much, much more. Check out the Rolling Stone article for a nice summary...

And, if you do nothing else but listen to the album, be sure to call the 800 number on the insert glued to the back of the CD itself: 1-866-445-6580

Has anyone else had a chance to check it out yet?

    Geek trivia:

The old PC game Quake has a nail gun, on the ammo boxes of ammo was the 'NIN' logo, apparently the creators were fans.

I only found that out the other day.

Also, you could put the game disc into a CD player and hear the whole soundtrack, starting on track 2.

    I kinda miss those days.

OK - day three: I'm still listening to this album.

I can't even say that I've done that for a Ministry release, and as forum veterans recall, I claim them as my favorite band...

Please, tell me someone else has heard this record...

I did, i have had it almost a month. It reminds me of that one ministry album with "lay lady lay" on it. You know, it's one of those albums that grow on you, and it's better when you are really high

Aaah, yes... Filth Pig. I think that was Jourgensen's favorite album (of his own, of course) up until recently...

You're right, I liked it more the more I heard it, wasn't sure about it at first, though. Damn, now I'm going to have to go listen to it again, too.

Now I'm having flashbacks of the "New World Order" video.

Cool. On a side note, I also had to seek "Du Hast" by Rammstein live. I love YouTube. I hope the new management doesn't kill it.

Mememe! I really like it too. Sum Zero... there's something about that song. When it comes on in my work office I find myself stopping and just listening. There are a few off there that catch my attention, but that track seems to have the best average.
