Husband was mowing today and ran over a bunny nest. Luckily, the nest was deep and the babies are fine. I'm all worried about them. I covered them back up with grass so they don't get burned by the sun and I hope the mom comes back. Are rabbits weird about human scent? I'm all paranoid she will smell my scent on the grass and not come back to take care of them. I'm also afraid that I put too much grass on them or something. These things haven't opened their eyes and they are all pink. I have some pics I will post later.
I'm going to be watching them all of the time. I am worried a black snake will find them or a stupid ass cat. What else would harm them? Large birds? Nature sucks sometimes.
I do not know much about rabbits... but I think you should something over them like a prop a board up... like a kids skate ramp.. The Arabs house has TONS of bunnies running around outside, while sitting and watching my fish I see them go under the storage building. Also he had bought the baby a big toy that came in a big box... I flattened the box and put it on the porch... wind blew it... It sat in the backyard a few days getting rained on... (not my house so I dont care) anyway when I did finally move it... baby bunnies were under it. They are still there. This was a few days ago... whenever my camera got ruined.
Well, I checked on them yesterday early evening and the nest was deeper (she had even used the grass I used to cover them back up) and there was some hair around it so mama had been back. I'm just going to leave them alone. The mothers don't stay around the nest for fear that the nest will be discovered and they only nurse once a day or so. luckily, she wasn't a picky mama, some will totally abandon them, but I am hoping that's not going to be the case here so after the last check, I'm not going around them and the hill is not getting mowed until I know they grown up.
I'm afraid you have Negroes in your lawn. I wasn't for certain until I saw the photograph. As with other Marsupials, Negroes have that characteristic hairless look about them while they are in their developmental stages. It's best to not disturb them, as this prevents them from becoming influential, productive members of society.
After reading your comment I went back and looked at the picture again and by the jesus you're spot on with your observation.
My fear is that they might spread beyond control and someday infest the White House. But seriously, when would that ever happen? ***Darned edit key... I forgot to capitalize "White House." Silly me.
