My Router can't get a fucking IP from the PPPoE, I have tried all of Linksys recommened fixes and it still wont go. Any Ideas, never done this shit before.
click start, then run, type CMD, then type ipconfig /all , ther are the ipaddresses on that PC and network. thento set up a static IP goto http://portforward.com and follow the instructions for your network, device and or program
You can also connect the PC directly to the ISP, cable modem, or DSL modem, and see if you can connect directly. PPPoE is usually what is required with DSL, but check to see if the modem itself is set up correctly. I know on mine, when I had DSL, I had to set the DSL modem to Bridged and the Router to PPPoE, something like that...... cable modem, I just use MAC cloning.
I had trouble with my Linksys router because when I changed my 4th octet on the CPU, it took with no problem. However, changing the 3rd octet required a re-boot (duh). I talked to 3 different tech reps to figure that silly shit out. Because I never rebooted, I couldn't connect to the router. I think its default setting is 192.168.1.1 and you have to set to a similar number to configure the router.
All good suggestions Linksys usually has decent support most isps suck. Port Forwarding's PFConfig seems like a pretty good utility. When it comes to that sort of thing this iw where a lot of people make mistakes regarding opening ports through your router or firewall if they do not know what they are doing they tend to end up simply removing crucial security barriers just to make stuff work. Seems though that your issue being that the linksys router not pulling an ip would be accressed using Maj or Phats suggestions. How about telling us what your isp is and the modem type. If you are using PPPoE or not are you simply online when you are online or do you have to type in information? Connect directly to the modem and if you get online then run ipconfig /all and copy down all the information you see. Most of your answers depend on what you see there. Also exactly what is your router make/model generally speaking you should be able to reset the router using specific instructions according to the make and model (unplug and use a paperclip to simply hit reset does not always work) and it should then default to dhcp mode and pick up an ip.
