My dad is a drunk, He is a good guy and he when I was a kid always kept a roof over me and my mothers head. He has always been a hard worker. I can understand why he drinks he had a pretty hard life, Step Father who beat him with dog whips and shipped him off to Alaska when he was 15 to hide him from his real father who was looking for him. Then Nam and all that other shit. So I get it and never really said anything. My mother has been a bitch about it for about 15 years now which does not help. Anyway he is diabetic. He does not need the shots he controlls it with diet when he found out he switch to Vodka and all but still it is bad for you. Anyway to the point in the last month he has not really been eating and he has lost 120 pounds. I know something is wrong but he is a stubborn guy how do I get him to a Doctor and then get him to stop drinking. I'm afraid if I do not step in now he might be dead by years end.
If I know anything about people like your father his path will not be deterred by much of anything. This is not said lightly either, so don't take it the wrong way.
Get him to a Doctor whether he wants to go or not. Effexor XR is an excellent medicine for treating the root causes of alcoholism. All he can do is scream and yell at you for dragging him to the Doctor. The alternative is to watch him die. I say you drag him. Good luck. Don't feel bad for doing everything you can to help somebody you care about. Barry
Thanks guys I had a talk with him today it was kind of weird. He was saying that he was fine like they always say and that if he died right now or a year from now he would be fine that he had a good run. I just told him too go to the doctor for me, That I would like to have him around for awhile and he agreed. Now I got to figure out the drinking thing.
Your dad losing weight indicates that he has converted from a type 2 to a type 1 diabetic. Type 2 diabetics are insulin resistant and are usually obese type 2 diabetics become very thin as all the fat and muscle in their bodies are utilized to make sugar as the cells in the body think the blood doesnt' have enough as the receptor s don' t take in sugar in response to insulin. Your fathter needs to have his diabetic medications adjusted. I say this out of obligation to give information to whoever may need it and not for any respect or liking of you as an individual who I find disgusting.
