Face it. Most movies made from books suck the pus. At best, they're okay, but the book shits all over them. But this thread is about those rare diamonds - movies that exceed the book's potential. Here's three from me: 1. The Godfather 2. The Shining 3. Silence of the Lambs
I disagree with The Shining, The movie was good but they left a lot out. The made for TV version put A lot back in but lack of good actors killed it for me. The other 2 are spot on. As far as me The Green Mile is the only movie that trully captured every part of the book. I mean if you read the book and try and watch the movie its like every Sentence is coming to life and walking towards you.
Believe it or not, I think The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe was far more magical than the book; it was most unexpectedly wonderful.
I have never seen a movie that was better than the book. I haven't seen Narnia yet, so perhaps that will change....
I actually thought LotR was much more interesting than the books. I read the books once and they were ok. I know people who read 'em like once a year will disagree, and I understand. They had a better experience than me. I kept falling asleep.
Ok I got to thinking about it, and Nightbreed was a decent movie. But I actually saw the movie before I read the book, so maybe that had something to do with it.
I am wasted an need to sleep so I will probably hate myself for this ( and subsequently delete it) but I have read thelord of the rings trilogy ((yes REZ books not book!) about 15 times in my life, nad the movies did do it justice, but it is a rare occurnece this happens, of course we all love our books and we hate that they leave the parts that they leave out, but let us not forget that no movie will ever, and I mean NEVER do the book justice, so be happy or hate the parts they do include. I myself wish that i could see the barrow downs and tom bombadil, but I really love what mr jackson di with the books. I will add much mucyh more to this tomorrow.
In fact lets start a thread of the parts that where in the movie and not in th books for LOTR. ANd vice versa.
See I reckon that's where so many movies-from-books go wrong. Take The Shipping News, where they tried to include every little detail. All it made for was a bad movie. Whereas (for example) The Shining chose to omit some bits, highlight others, change characters and more. The result, in my humble opinion, was Kubrick's best movie and better than the (still very good) book.
Didn't he write the whole thing as one book, and the editors are the ones who divided it up? I know they wouldnt' let him name the third book what he wanted? The title sorta gives it away. I think it was supposed to be called War of the Rings.
Yeah he did, , I could get into al the shit, but lets do that , well shit Bunble , you know me in the real world, lets talk if you want to you jagoff!
