Me too, and for the first time, as well... (Only caught it from the middle of the Fistful of Yen skit, though) - hell, we were probably watching the same channel a few nights ago...

At any rate, I went out and bought it on DVD, brought it home, and the goddamn thing doesn't work. Fucking defective discs... sheesh.

why don't you just rent it and then burn a copy?

Several reasons. To make a perfect copy, I'd need a DVD-R, and blank discs are $30 (last I checked, no doubt they're cheaper now).

To rip it and burn it onto a VCD would require a PC DVD drive, something else I don't currently have.

I've yet to see a rental place that carries it on DVD, too... the film was made back in 1977, and this DVD was done in early 2000... Not exactly a high-profile release.

I'm going to test the disc out on my bud's Sony PoS2, to determine if it's just a problem with that individual disc, or some sort of strange compatibility problem between my specific DVD player and that particular movie. I'm hoping it's not the latter of the two.

Without either a DVD-ROM or DVD-R drive on my computer, the discs would be virtually useless. Thanks anyway, though... One of these days I'll break down and buy one... I figure, the longer I wait, the better and cheaper they'll get.

By comparison, I ran across an old ad for a computer store, probably 3-4 years old (It advertised P-233's with MMX), stuffed in a box... they had CD-R drives (CD-RW wasn't even out back then), 2x write/4x read, $700. Blank CD-R media was $10 a disc. And to think, I get a hundred on a spindle now for less than how much 3-4 would've cost back then...

At any rate, I imagine the trend will continue.

This sounds like a fix for a computer DVD player... mine's a standalone DVD-Video player for the TV only...

As for burning with Nero, you must have a DVD-ROM drive on your computer to read from the source DVD... A standard CD-ROM will not read a DVD. I haven't looked at the link, but I'm sure it involves ripping it to MPEG, then burning a VCD (not DVD), using a regular CD-R or -RW disc. My player will read these, and will play VCD movies, but again, you have to have a DVD-ROM drive on your computer to rip it, which I still do not have.

...not to mention the obvious loss of clarity when converting it to a VCD. VCD's are marginally better than VHS, and still a far cry away from DVD quality.

Thats freaky as hell. That's exactly the moment when I turned the movie on. I liked the daredevil skit the best though.
