Now, we all know the meaning of Utopia: a perfect society. Today I thought I would discuss what exactly it means and more specifically how it could be achieved. This is a fantastic ideological thread and doesn't really reflect my political affiliations. I just thought it would be fun to see how people would rule a nation if they could, and how they would achieve "perfection". I think that my first step to create a perfect society would be to remove any trace of malformations or mental illness. At birth, babies would go through a series of tests to determine their aptitudes and the ones who fail, would simply be discarded. After a few generations, only the fit and the smart would be able to reproduce, therefore cleaning the gene pool.
Ah yes genetic engineering however I believe natural selection is all you need to clean the gene pool. Welfare, fertility clinics, and modern medicine are turning back the clock on evolution. Social safety nets seem to allow people to breed who shouldn't. I suppose it could be said that warfare also turns back the clock culling the strongest and most courageous while the cowards breed. I find the science of genetic engineering repulsive at the level it has gone. Although I have long bee an advocate of using sterilization as a means of cleaning out problem people. I think Israel for instance should arrest Palestinians who commit crimes against them and sterilize them. Withing a few generations less than ten I'd say they would have a more submissive and productive Palestinian society that they could live in peace with. It's the humane thing to do.
