We got a call today from our host provider, Internetconnection.net. They finally explained to us why Fugly has been so slow for the past few weeks (feels more like past few months). Apparently the people that they were buying bandwidth from are a bunch of lying sacks of shit and really screwed them (and us) over.

They promised that it will be fixed in the next few weeks and that they are buying new lines to speed it up even more. What do you think we should do? Should we stay, or just cut our losses and get a new host?

Why should you/we suffer because they got hoodwinked? Could you talk them into hosting you for free for the time that was lost and or all of the clients that you lost?

If they are even a somewhat big company they rather give stuff away then have to find a new client to cold call and kiss fresh ass....when yours is all warm already. But if they think that thier balls clank and want you to help eat the losses then I would high tail it and take a shit in a bag and mail it to them.

That's true. We've lost nearly HALF of our viewers. I can't prove that this is a direct result of the server speed, but we have received a lot of mail complaining about it, some of them saying that they would never return because they were so frustrated by the speed problems.

Personally, I think we should stay bossman (Oops Asshole). If they can fix it, perfect. If not, moving ISP addies can be a severe bitch and a half. And I don't mean PinkyBrownEye. I mean it can be a real pain in the ass as you know. Mike and Harlan are too fuckin lazy to help us. Sarah might lend a hand. You know me and LT are down. Even if he does call me a Cracka Barrel Cracka. Just let me know what you plan on doing and I'll go with it.

Can anyone recommend a good host that has multiple upstream providers (not a single T3 is someone's basement) and will charge us $2.00 or less per GB for bandwidth? We pay $2.50/GB with Internetconnection and we *still* have to pay for server rental and a co-location/management fee.

Cheeze has a point too. moving ISP's will be a bigger bitch then trying to haggle a price. If you can show the current provider that you have in fact lost clients and that there are more leaving due to their lack of judgement and that you are suffering due to it as well then they should be able to cut somesort of deal. If they tell you different they are cooking up a great big pot of bull shit. Also try to find out who else uses thier services and contact them to see if they were having problems as well. There is power in numbers!
    keep us posted

I used to work for an ISP in Houston. If they are smart they will KISS your @!%, these are possible grounds for a lawsuite. Before you can call your self an ISP you have to have the PIPES for it.

but it looks to me like the porn section is hosted off-site...
and the difference in speed is pretty phenomenal... i'd looked through most of the pics on one section before a page on the forum had loaded up..

i really think you should be looking elsewhere...

We're looking at Korksoft.com. They will give us bandwidth at $1.35/GB. Internetconnection.net charges us $2.50/GB!
Korksoft uses 4 upstream providers, UUNet, Sprint, Fusion(?) and Convergent(?). Never heard of the last two. They use BGP to balance the load of their lines and route traffic back on the best possible one (Something that IC.net promises to do in the next few weeks)

Here are some links to sites hosted at Korksoft. What do you think of the speed difference between them and Fugly? The last link is to a large (17MB) file.

www.hispeed.net (us.net) will give you a PIII 850, 512MB Ram, an 18GB HDD and 500GB of bandwidth for $699/month with NO setup fee. And if you use any more bandwidth, it's $1.35/GB. How the hell can anyone possibly beat that?

Holy shit! This is true. We just spoke to them. Thank you, mudslinger. I'm not sure what brought on this change of heart. Last time I saw anything posted by you, you were calling us "filthy Jews" and handing out free passwords. Maybe your lithium finally kicked in. Either way, thank you.

Thanks to Mudslinger, we have worked out a deal with hispeed.net. Being a paranoid as we are, however, we want to know what you thing of the speed of some of the other sites hosted on their netowrk. Please take a minute to go to:
    www.genopro.com www.tabcrawler.com www.globaloe.com

and let us know how fast/slow you think they are COMPARED TO other sites like Yahoo, MSN etc.
