Its only February but it feels like spring for me having moved back south. I'm looking at places I'd like to take my wife neat little known places that I remember going to when I was growing up. One was Chain of Lakes. Basically a deserted sand quarry in the middle of the piney woods. Back then it was just a sandy dirt road to the middle of nowhere and all of a sudden several sand bottom ponds one with water clear enough you could see your toes in chest deep water. A few picnic tables. Now I get online and see it’s a resort. http://www.colresort.com/index.htm Not exactly a secret anymore. Another neat place I remember was Balmorhea State Park, TX Kind of the same idea except in the desert something around 1.5 acre natural swimming pool 25 feet deep in parts fed by a natural spring. When I was a little lad, growing up in Perth, Western Australia, we used to take our holidays in a sleepy little hamlet on the south west coast, called Dunsborough. Now, it's a burgeoning tourist town, but the bakery still makes the all-time best jam doughnuts, and the water is still crystal clear. It's also less than half an hour from Margaret River, an area that produces some of Australia's finest wines (Pierro Chardonnay, and Leeuwin Estate Art Series are just two of the notables).
It's hard to find little known areas in southern california. Something about 30 million people stacked on top of each other like rats isn't very conductive to the concept.
Chester I think yours puts mine to shame. I remember having some awesome times as a kid at those places. I suppose that part of what makes them bigger in my mind. Australia must have some of the best diving in the world. I herd some horror stories about the jelly fish and the sharks. Probably stories that were over exaggerated though. I know what you mean Dio I lived there for four years. I had a place in Fallbrook near Temecula off of the 15 if you know where that is. I married a girl from Anaheim and left in 91 I thought it was bad then. It seemed like it had changed for the worse 10 years later. Fallbrook was a really nice town though.
Yeah, I lived in Yorba Linda for 20 years, and they've built the place out. Even in Temecula it's hard to find open space. Out towards Blackstar and Modjeska Canyon you can find it, but from the coast to the inland empire it's almost all built out. You married a girl from Anaheim, eh. I work in Anaheim.
Anaheim isn't that bad, it's Garden Grove that's rough. You can drive for miles down Garden Grove Boulevard, and you don't see a sign in English until you hit stanton
Actually I say Anaheim cause everyone knows that, she only lived a short distance from Disney but in Garden Grove. I bet you know where that is. My Nephew is coming back to the states soon he is over seas right now. We all want to get together (all the in-laws) but its going the same as it always is. Everyone goes to Vegas and hangs out at my brother n law Mike’s house. I hate it its so boring. I hate to gamble and that’s all the hell to do around there. So I was hoping to suggest we meet somewhere different. Maybe camp out at Joshua Tree or something.
I lived in Westminster for about 6 months, and one thing I can say is that California can give anywhere on the fucking Planet a run for it's money in terms of worst traffic.
