I think i have a kidney stone, I have pissed a ploddy grain of sand twice, yet I still have rxcessive pain, hown long do these lasts?
Depends on how big the stone is. How long you been having the pain? "A stone less than 4 mm in diameter has an 80% chance of spontaneous passage; this falls to 20% for stones larger than 8 mm in diameter. The urologist may choose to admit a patient with a ureteral stone larger than 6 mm because of low likelihood of spontaneous passage." "About 15-20% of patients require invasive intervention due to stone size, continued obstruction, infection, or intractable pain. Several techniques are available to the urologist when the stone fails to pass spontaneously." http://www.emedicine.com/emerg/topic499.htm
I hate to be the bearer of bad news (excuse the pun), but I seriously doubt you would know a fraction of the pain...not that that makes you wrong per se, but let's face it: a kidney stone and giving birth aren't even in the same league.
Actually if you read the article I posted: "Acute passage of a kidney stone from the renal pelvis through the ureter gives rise to pain at times so excruciating that it has been likened to the discomfort of childbirth. The often sudden, extremely painful episode of renal colic prompts over 450,000 visits to EDs annually and places emergency physicians on the front line of management of acute nephrolithiasis."
Fuck it man. I'd just go see a urologist. I'm not pretending to know enough to tell you what to do about it or how long you should wait. If in doubt go see a doctor is always the best advice because you can't undo damage once it's done. It can only be minimized. I know there can be complications that are serious and can effect kidney function depending on where the stone is lodged and how much flow you are getting and if you have developed an infection and so forth. Having said that it may be that they just want you to wait and see if it passes on it's own without getting any kind of imaging. It may be that you can just call up your primary care physcian and ask whether you need to come in or get an appointment with a urologist or just wait it out a while longer.
Ummm...while each individual's experience to pain is RELATIVE, I don't think men should even attempt to try to classify childbearing. Anytime it's acceptable to numb your entire spinal cord to keep pain at bay, is a time when I'd pretty much say, "gee, that fucking hurts..."
Hey Sam, exactly how many children have you given birth to? How are you able to know exactly how it feels? You too, are relying on what others tell you. I have never given birth myself, and I don't intend on doing so for quite some time. But I don't assume to be right or wrong on what experts besides ol' Dr. Dan there say about how it feels. As he pointed out, it was a woman who wrote what was said. But then again, has she ever experienced kidney stones? I would say the levels of pain are compairable, however, being as how they are in similar areas of the body.
As I said I am a medical student not a Doctor. I know alot more than any of you and alot less than a doctor. If I were a doctor my inclination would be to get some imaging to see exactly what is going on instead of playing a guessing game.
Why do you think I said what I said, Waste all that money becoming a Doc and have no commen since how typical.
I have a son and a daughter, who's six. I was in labor for 18 hours with my son and was pronounced clinically dead (I.E., I flatlined) during part of my labor. I was in labor for 22 hours with my little chica and I wanted someone to literally kill me to put me out of my misery. It was that bad. So, yes, in reference to your statement, childbirth is an experience that I would categorize as the worst pain on earth, bar none. Just because Passing a kidney stone is in similar regions of the body doesn't come close to explaining it. Sorry.
so what does this have ti do with my kidney atine, I paasse anothr today ahd it hurt like a motherfuckere... maybe nit like squirting a puppy but still hurt
Dwaine are you all right man? not that i care about grammar but your posts have been riddled with typos lately, that blood sugar shit acting up?
Dwaine, you need to do some reading up on dietry recommendations so that you are at least not doing anything to make it worse. For example: I know that some medications will interfere with the absorption of certain nutrients, so if something you are prescribed is found to interfere with magnesium absorption/metabolism then it would be wise to stop taking it (providing you checked with your doctor beforehand).
