    The types of headphones

    1. By construction, the headphones are:
    • In-ear Headphones;
    • In-Ear-Canal Headphones;
    • Earbuds Headphones:
    • On-Ear Headphones:
    • Over-the-Ear Headphones:
    • Closed Back Over-Ear Headphones:
    • Open Back Over-Ear Headphones;
    • Wireless Headphones.
    To swim into details you can with this nice review: http://theroundingsound.com/different-types-of-headphones-explained/

    No matter how comfortable and imperceptible are the earbuds headphones: they can not give a good sound. It is very difficult to achieve a wide frequency range with a few headphones. Nowadays, you can find headphones with extra rubber (silicone) liners. With their help achieved a better contact of the earphone with the ear and provides better soundproofing. In addition, these headphones are extremely hygienic – silicon seals can be easily removed and rinsed under the tap.

    2. In the type of attachment, the headphones come with a vertical shackle to the headband connecting two ear cups, and with the occipital shackle connecting the two parts of headphones on the head. The shackle consists of three elements, a flexible coverage, and two elastic ties. This design allows you to evenly distribute the load on the head, relieving you from a quick physical fatigue.

    3. According to the method of sound transmission, headphones are wired and wireless. Wired headphones connect with the source (mp-3 player, computer, stereo, etc.) with the wire, providing the maximum sound quality. Professional models of headphones made exclusively wired. Wireless headphones connect with the source through a wireless channel of any type (radio, infrared, Bluetooth). They are mobile but have limited range. They have lower sound quality compared to wired headphones.

    1. According to the method of connecting the cable, the headphones are one-sided and two-sided.

    2. At the emitter design headphones are dynamic, electrostatic, isodynamic and ortho-dynamic. Without going into the technical details of all types, it worth to note, that the most common type of headphones is dynamic.

    3. By type of acoustic design headphones are open type, semi-open (semi-closed) type and closed type. The open-type headphones pass external sounds partially, allowing you to achieve a more natural sound. However, at a high level of ambient noise, the sound of open headphones will be too quiet. This type of headphones creates pressure on the inner ear to a lesser extent. The semi-open (semi-closed) Headphones type are almost the same as open headphones, but at the same time provide better sound insulation. The closed type headphones do not pass out external noise and ensure maximum soundproofing that allows you to use them in noisy environments and in cases where you must completely focus on listening. The main disadvantages of the closed type headphones – hollowness when playing music and sweating ears. In the sale, you can even find models, "closed water", – special waterproof headphones.

    Main technical characteristics

    The main features are frequency range, sensitivity, resistance, maximum power and distortion.

    Frequency range affects the sound quality of headphones. Headphones with a large diameter of membranes have a high sound quality. The average value of the frequency is from 18 Hz to 20,000 Hz. Some professional headphones have a frequency range from 5 Hz to 60 000 Hz.

    Sensitivity affects the sound volume in the headphones. The larger the value, the louder the sound. Regardless of the source of the sound. Headphones usually provide a sensitivity of at least 100 dB. With an exceptional sensitivity, the sound can be too quiet, especially when using with portable devices. Most headphones have impedance about 32 Ω.
    The level of distortion is measured in percent. The lower this percentage, the better the sound quality.

    Anyway, this article will tell how to choose headphones and describe the features worth your attention:

    How to choose headphones what to look for? The most important thing is the sound quality and comfort in use.The final sound quality is determined primarily by headphones, not the device to which it is connected. Good models are expensive!

    If you have trouble hearing or you are just worried about the possible harm from continuous use of earphones, you should note the following. The greatest danger for your hearing constitutes Earbuds Headphones and In-Ear-Canal Headphones, insomuch as when using them the sound goes directly into the ear canal, bypassing the ear conch, which usually reinforces all the sounds we hear outside.That's why sustained use of headphones is fraught with a partial hearing loss, and in extreme cases may even lead to deafness.

    Monitoring Headphones

    They are relly the best. They are the most comfortable and practical - have the maximum size, the greater power, and excellent quality indicators. Their main task is monitoring of music. Professionals recommend choosing a model with a working range of at least 20-20 000 Hz.

    Monitoring headphones used by sound engineers, DJs, gamers, and just fans of really good music. That is why manufacturers offer a whole line of models attractive designs with index "DJ".

    Wireless headphones

    Special mention should be made to wireless headphones. There are two ways of signal transmission. The first is with the help of radio signals or with the help of AC/DC adapter.
    The second one is through the infrared port.
    Pros: freedom of movement in the apartment, office, country house etc.
    Cons: noticeable noise when listening to songs, frequent battery replacement, the inability to listen to the headphones with the infrared port in an adjacent room.

    Here's how to find the right wireless headphones or earphones along with top top-rated reviews.

    Shopping tips

    1. The choice of headphones is strictly individual and depends both on the purpose of buying and on the taste of each customer. If you want to get really good sound, you should forget about cheap forgery, and purchase only branded products.

    2. If you find it difficult or just don't want to swim details, parameters resistance, frequency, etc. - do not worry. Data are rather arbitrary, in order to globally affect the sound quality. In this case, it's better to hear once, than hundred times to see it. Believe your ears.

    3. If the convenience to use is the most important for you, try portable models. For example, an extremely comfortable Earbuds Headphones - they are practically invisible, do not ruin your hairstyle, and also have a small weight. If the convenience to use and good sound quality, - put your attention to headphones with a thin shackle, which is possible to regulate.

    4. The average value of the frequency characteristics of good headphones should be 20-20000 Hz. The frequency range directly affects the sound quality, nevertheless, it is not the most important criterion when choosing headphones.

    5. Sensitivity affects the sound volume in the headphones. Ideally, the headphones should provide a sensitivity of at least 100 dB. Otherwise, the sound may be too quiet when using headphones with the player or smartphone.

    6. How to choose headphones? wired or wireless? It is obvious that the wire will hamper your movements. But it will be a better sound. on the contrary, wireless headphones, give full freedom of movement. However, you need to pay attention to the quality of transmission, frequency channels, the presence of automatic tuning and headphone weight. Among the disadvantages of wireless headphones is the battery. There are models with batteries that would charge directly on the transmitter.

    7. If the headphones rubbing the ears use the overhead or monitoring headphones.

    8. Rate the weight of the headphones. Some headphones that seem easy at first sight can cause discomfort after a couple hours of continuous use. Use Earbuds Headphones with a headband or other models, evenly distributing your weight.

    9. Bundled headphones are often of poor quality. If you want to fully enjoy high-quality sound, buy the headphones separate from the music device.

    10. Always use the opportunity to try out headphones in action before purchase.

    11. Pay attention to famous manufacturers and make your choice in favor of those who produces headphones for many years. Headphones compared to another technique is quite a simple technical device, and for many years was not invented something fundamentally new. Today the consumer can afford (and should!) to be picky about choosing such a device. The perfected technology of well-known manufacturers allows us to avoid such problems in even their most budget models.

    Leading manufacturers of high-quality headphone for a wide range of consumers – is AKG, Audio-Technica, Koss, and Sennheiser.

    I've had both wired and bluetooth headphones. Its a tradeoff... bluetooth (without a cord) is really nice, but it can be very finicky sometimes. Best case? Buy a set that has bluetooth capability but comes with a cord, just in case.

    I have been using these headphones for about 3 months now based on some reviews I read. They are great, and relatively cheap. But I do see some newer stuff coming out that makes me want an upgrade...
