Ginger is a perennial growing to a height of two feet. It has lance shaped leaves and stalks of white or yellow flowers. Native to Asia, ginger is grown throughout the tropics. It is propagated by dividing the rootstock. Ginger flourishes in fertile soil and needs plenty of rain. The rhisome is unearthed when the plant is ten months old.
