Canada, capitalistic or socialistic? Canada is at it's core a capitalistic country; encouraging small business ownership and capitalistic ventures. Altough some aspect of it's financial system do resemble those of a socialist country. The Canadian government controls 50 corporations, also know as the Crown Corporations. It includes: lottery, liquor boards, ViaRail (passenger train), Air Canada (airline), Farm Credit, Royal Canadian Mint, Canada Deposit Insurance Corp, Canadian Broadcasting Corp, and so on. Unlike communist or purely socialistic countries, the government encourages competition against those Crown Corporations. Their sole purpose is to provide the government with a cash flow and to help regulate pricing. In other words, there isn't a single entity in Canada that can dictate the price of commodities or goods. This is one of the reasons why Canada has managed to avert the financial crisis. It's a regulated environment, regulated by competition; but unlike a totally free-market, the Crown Corporations are not out to make a buck, so they can afford to keep prices low therefore forcing their competitiors to do the same.
It was regulations that brought down banks It was the Democrat imposed regulation called the Community Reinvestment Act that brought down the banks here. If government had not regulated the banks forcing them against their will to make bad loans we would not be in the mess. Furthermore it was the government run banks FreddieMac and SallieMae that winked at the banks and told them not the worry that government would simply buy from them their loans subject ti inevitable default. All and elaborate pied piper/robin hood sort of scheme. Lore the banks and redistribute the wealth. While at the same time making untold wealth for the Democrats. (Obama's campaign chest was 3/4 billion dollars) The power outages in California were due to regulations against developing more power generating plants and transmission lines. Then further regulations against generating more power. But you see the public was duped into believing that they needed Democrats and big government regulations to defend poor little ole them against the meant power companies. And against the mean banks. The very shallow minded and ignorant among us are subject to be duped like this by the liberal media. Thats why the public schools are dumbing down the children. So they can be dull minded and their thought process easily mailable by the media. So they can mold them into good little commies.
I see your point. Unfortunately I don't have the actual measures taken by the federal government in that sense. I would like to make a comparison with the USA on that level, I'll look for details and get back to you on this.
