I have read about the stuff online a little bit. But they just tell about symptoms and reactions and such. I want to know specifically what it does.
Don't ask Dan. He'll just give you a link. It's a sedative hypnotic. It works by slowing activity in the brain to allow sleep. "The active ingredient - Zolpidem - works with a natural brain chemical called GABA, one of at least 18 major brain chemicals known as neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters control communication among neighboring brain cells by either increasing or decreasing their electrical activity. Once released from a brain cell, it is believed that GABA dampens the electrical activity of neighboring brain cells and that Zolpidem works with GABA to further reduce the possibility of certain brain cells becoming electrically active. Zolpidem is not chemically related to any older sleep drugs that work with GABA. Laboratory studies have shown that unlike these older sleep drugs, Zolpidem targets a specific area of the brain cell. This specific targeting may result in fewer side effects. When taken as prescribed, Ambien can give you the good night's sleep your body demands without lingering drowsiness the following day." And from my own experience, it can make you trip better than LSD, without any of the junk effects. When I used to take it years ago, I could hear voices. I could walk around the room and catch bits and pieces of conversations like I was at a dinner party. I would communicate with pictures of the wall and I could actually watch the walls breathe. Everything came to life from a distance, but if you got too close, it would go back to being 'normal'. I felt happy and peaceful and that the world was a beautiful place to be. It was the best drug ever. I would also write things that I thought were beautiful, but they wouldn't make any sense the next day. I also took some and tried to communicate with the dead. It's also really easy to become tolerant. I would only 'trip' twice a month. I could never get the same effect if it is was still in my system. Now I just take a smaller dose and go to sleep. It works great for that too. Some people have bad experiences on it. They drive, get arrested, eat food, and do really weird shit like interviews. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzM2eP17fHU
I just watched the Interview as well as the part 2. Awsome he seemed distracted and at the same time focused at a different level than you would expect. Interesting in deed you think he was on Ambien? The stuff worked great for me. Except I did not take it as directed and there were some odd memory issues the next day.
Lots of people do things and have no memory of it the next day. Memory loss is one of the side effects listed on the Ambien CR commericals. My husband read an article in the waiting room at the DR a while back about Stamos and Ambien. I found those interviews and I think they are the ones because people are claiming that he is drunk. I am going to do links, but only so you can read some of people's experiences with it. I find some of the stories funny. http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/youropinions.php?opinionid=8725 http://digg.com/gaming_news/Ambien,_sleep_drug._Makes_you_crazy.
This is a sleep aid? Does hearing voices and watching the wall breathe not keep you awake? Or does it have that Valium "who cares?" effect?
Yes, it is a sleep aid. And if you don't go to sleep, weird stuff may happen. It gives you a sense of euphoria... at least it did to me anyway.
The way I see it drugs effect different people differently. Just like alcahol or pot effects different people differently. I think some of the stories are exagerated by those type of people that carry everything to the extream. But I believe some are very true. I have used other stuff to help sleep and was impressed by Ambien.
I had a screwdriver followed by a bloody mary last night and it knocked me the hell out. I sometimes have trouble sleeping because I can't seem to turn my brain to "standby." I'm not anxious, really, but shit races through my head to the point that I just get up and watch a movie, play video games, or post on some banal forum site late at night.
You know, the muscle relaxer, "Flexeril" is probably the best sleeping aid for me. Although Seroquel was good for a 17 hour knock-out. Flexeril works well for insomnia but doesn't work well on neck problems. I was down for a couple of weeks with a messed up neck. I couldn't move my head at all and I was to take 3/10mg of Flexeril a day. I would take one and barely be able to stay awake, so I just used them as sleeping pills after that.
I like staying up. It's the only time I get to myself. After kids are in bed, I have from about 9:00 pm to 5:30 am to myself. I'll limit myself to 4-6 hours of sleep just to watch a movie or play football on the X360. I can't do that too many nights in a row. I did it Saturday night so I was pretty beat last night. I drank the vodka just because I wanted to. I would have passed out either way.
I like staying up too. I am naturally a night person, but I have to live in the daytime world, which means that I can't sleep. I also think too much and stress myself out when trying to go to sleep. That's when I think about all of the terrible shit.
Maybe that's why I turn to movies and video games - for the escape. It beats wallowing in despair ( I do that at work.)
My insomnia went away when I was taking my OCD meds. Funny partly because sleeplessness is one of the side effects, but it stopped the repetitive thinking, so I was actually able to sleep.
My wife has Flexeril she never takes it but gets it for her back. If I take one I'm like comatose. Same for some anti-histamine. Simple allergy pill and I do stupid stuff like fall asleep while trying to talk to people or eat dinner. I don't like it though. Like I said goes to show different meds affect different people differently.
Yeah, 'cause allergy medicine makes me want to die. The only stuff I can take is regular old Allegra.
Please don't ever leave thje thread Pukey. I love your style your smart and quick opinion. And funny perspective. I enjoy it and it keeps me centered. You to Blue. Damn it I must be getting drunker instead of more sober. Damn that liver of mine doesnot work like it used to. Having second thoughts about my ride. But I'm bouncing off the walls here.
No don't have any ambien just tried it, liked it, and was curious. I was just bored and decided to have a drink right after work. chatted with my neighbor and had a few more. Then I was all amped up and dying to go out. But I did not want to take the truck. So I had a few cups of coffee and an hour later went out on the bike. Came home after midnight some time. Dallas is awsome at 1 or 2 AM cause you have the roads for the most part to ride unobstructed. And the views can be great. I wish I had one of those helment cameras. If I did I'd make a video and show you North Dallas from all angles in one night with one tank of gas. Would be pretty cool to fast forward into like 30 minutes.
