I downloaded the demo for Crackdown, a new over-the-shoulder shooter adventure for the Xbox 360. It’s sort of a “Grand Theft” meets “Splinter Cell” kind of game. In GTA style, you can jack cars, drive them around, trash them and go get another. In this game, however, you are on the right side of the law, acting as a police agent of some sort. So, you’re not really jacking cars, you’re commandeering them in the name of the law. Yeah, ok, just commandeer a cool one. Now if you go killing too many civilians, your fellow authorities are authorized to take you down. You have the ability to climb and jump more than in GTA, allowing you to scale parts of buildings in order to gain a better shot of just to access the bad guys. Also, as in the 3rd GTA installment, if you land in water, you can swim. Unlike GTA, you can’t carry every weapon known to man at once. You can swap one weapon if favor of another in case you drop a gangster who has something you like. You also have a sidearm and a few grenades (fun) on your person. The demo only allows access to certain parts of the game-world and only for 60 minutes at a time, but it seems to be a good one. Release is set for Feb 20.
The characters are sort of comic-book looking, which takes some getting used to. I'd like a more shaded gritty look but the game flows smoothly. Maybe that's the trade-off. GRAW2 is looking good, though. New ACU digital patterns on the soldiers look good.
and I'll take environments for the block :-/ how man urban based piece of shit can be made? If it wasent for the free invite to Halo 3, they would have never sold 100K of that title
I prefer these to the mind numbing first-person shooters that have clogged the shelves in the last several years. I'd like to see more puzzle along with the action. Not really "Myst" but a little more cerebral than a straight up shoot-em.
