I just got digital cable and I had them install a cable modem while they were at it. After having a dial-up connection for as long as I can remember (about 12 months) I can't believe I didn't do this a looong fuckin time ago. Anyway, I'm kinda drunk right now and I just wanted to let it be known that cable modems and leper colonies are very cool, but that's just my opinion.

We've been thinking about the cable modem thing too, but everytime we 're getting NEAR deciding, somebody we know has those outtage experiences. Since we have a biz, outtages just won't do. What are some ADVANTAGES to tip the scales?

I actually don't mind paying 8.95/mo for dial-up. I have no cable and go to bed w/Stephen King every night. Being poor rules!

See, now that's the sort of honest to fucking goodness truth that advertisers should be using in their sales campaigns.

Aside from high speed porn, downloading the latest tunes is a breeze, all the latest films, software, you name it. Get it while you can, rumour has it that the US government is thinking of ways of disrupting sites like Kazaa which they can't legally touch. One such offering is to flood kazaa with software/mp3's etc that will not work (missing .dll's etc.)
Dunno if this will happen or not but as I understand it plans for this are underway.

Oh there is high speed porn. Or did I mention that?

The difference between an egg and a wank is?

    You can beat an egg.

how does the cable modem affect 2nd and 3rd locations? Like when yourself is using one IP, and your friend is logging to one of your IP's at another location? I need to know this, if anybody knows, please.

Sorry you lost me. What do you mean about the IP thing? More than 1 IP?

Yes. And more than one location. I have an idea the system we have makes that possible but a cable system might limit us.

Seems it would be cheaper than what we're doing now.

Sorry for sounding thick but as I understand things a cable modem gives a more static IP unlike dial up. I do not understand the ip access thing, do you mean connection sharing?

If you do it is easy to network 2-3 PC's on the same broadband connection. My 2 kids share my connection with no problems whatsoever.
