Kohring's bribes. Kohring, a representative from 1994 to 2007, was arrested in May of 2007 along with two other former representatives and charged with several corruption crimes. The trial showed evidence that Kohring, while a member of the legislature, took bribes and did things that helped VECO Corporation financially. VECO is an Alaska oil service company. Evidence included recorded meetings between Kohring and former executives at VECO. The recordings showed that Kohring agreed on many occasions to lobby and enter votes in VECO's favor in exchange for cash. "Former Representative Victor Kohring betrayed his oath of office and the people of Alaska when he deliberately and repeatedly took bribes in exchange for official acts," said Assistant Attorney General Fisher. "I thank the federal prosecutors and FBI agents who have worked so hard on this case. Their efforts demonstrate that the Department of Justice will pursue public officials who abuse their positions of power for their own financial gain." VECO execs plead guilty back in May of 2007 to paying bribes to public officials, and testified in Kohring's trial.
You can thank Republican Gov. Palin for going after the corrupt Alaska politicians. Contrast that to a Democrat that gets away with it.
