 Got a fucking break in my main sewer line, ever-so-convienently directly under my driveway. This sucks.
Get a second opinion. How feaking long of a sewer line do you have? The company I used to work for charge $10 a yard(3ft) to replace the main line and the water line. Being under the driveway sucks, but I have seen worse. Jack hammering up one section of the driveway shouldnt be so bad, just have a contractor come in and give you a quote on that. Probably lots of mark up by the plumbing company.
$287.50 last night for the endoscopic pipe camera - "no charge" for the auger sent down the 2" pipe on the roof (the guy said the pipe was too small to send in the grinding bit, and the house was built prior to '79, when they started installing cleanout valves in front yards.) So, I go up on the roof after they leave last night, and discover that the pipe over the other toilet is, in fact, larger. They didn't even bother to look at it. At 1:00 AM this morning, I was mopping up water in the guest bathroom again. This prompted another call. Well, after another trip out here, and $187.50 later (since they didn't charge me for the first auger) the people finally ran it with the grinding bit down that pipe. Bottom line: I can shit at home again now, and after being raped by these guys, the sewer line isn't the only thing that's running freely. Time for some more brownies.
phatboy: it's probably only 40-50 ft. from the front door to where the city's pipe begins (apparently at the edge of the sidewalk facing the house) - I know the guy was blowing smoke up my ass when he told me that price last night, and it was later confirmed by his written quote I got today from his boss of $2,977.50 (which he assured me was a 'damn good price') - no fucking way I'm going that route. I'll sell this bitch and move out before I pay that fucking much. Even if it comes down to me having to replace the line, there has to be a cheaper way.
OK, but you have to provide your own transportation down here... Just so we're clear on that aspect of it...
Im not sure where you are at, but about $200 for a small track hoe I can knock that shit out in about 4 hours. LOL. Have to do it on the weekend though so code enforcement isnt out checking for permits. Probably a couple hundred bucks in schedule 40 PVC pipe. Code in GA is for a cleanout by the house, and one by the street. Not too bad. Just sucks if you have to do a lot of tunneling. The last one I put in, for a friends rental property, the city's tap was under the sidewalk so we just had to get the coupling on their pipes. They sell these couplings, called fernco(I think thats who makes em), that use metal bands like radiotor hose clamps, 4-4 at the house and 4-6 at the street.
