This is for real. I have to give a one hour lecture TOMORROW afternoon to a group of brainiac high school kids. They want me to talk to them about "the dangers of designer drugs" and "the dangers of date rape" (I know that is lame). The kids are in a private prep school for the super smart. I need some help of how to relate to these kids, and what to say to them that won't be instantly rejected. What are some of the newer things out there? What are real dangers and what is hype? HELP! This is not my area of expertise, but I have a feeling that some of you are experts. No kidding - give me some ideas soon please. I don't want to screw it up. Barry
What you need? i got weed i got coke i got pills i make a mean mushy brew and theres a guy down the road selling smack let me know.
I knew I would find the right guy in here.... I need to know what I can tell these kids that might influence them not to use drugs. Lets admit it, whatever anyone thinks about drugs, it is hard to deny that "do it yourself" drugs have the potential for disaster. There is a big difference in the abuse of legal drugs which are manufactured under controlled conditions, and the drugs made in Jim Bob's basement. Right or wrong is not my focus. I am looking at the danger issue. Any help? Barry
if it isn't your area of expertise then why the hell did you accept the lecture? it's people who overhype the dangers of these drugs without being experts that are part of the problem... you do realise that don't you?.. yes there are dangerous drugs.. but there are also safe drugs.. and they are all made by both drug companies and backstreet chemists... the real problem here is the drug laws... people like pleasure.. drugs are pleasurable... pleasurable drugs get banned.. unless there is some medical reason for them... i know it is unlikely to happen... but i think there should be a legalisation of some recreational drugs.. which would negate the demand for black market (dirty, dangerous) drugs.... go and buy clean coke, smack, ecstacy whatever.. over the counter at the chemist..
I accepted this lecture because 1. They needed someone on short notice for a seminar because one of the regular people had a death in the family. 2. They could not afford to pay anyone (I am doing it gratis) 3. Drugs are not my primary focus, but that doesn't mean I am not qualified to talk about them I am probably more experienced and knowledgeable than anyone else that was available. I do work in the field every day. Please, could I have your permission to use your post as evidence of how drug use twists the thinking processes of otherwise intelligent people? I think it would have an impact. Barry
Could someone help me find the thread "when the truth confronts, absurdity is sure to follow" ? I think I have a new example to enter... Barry
haha.. and funnily enough.. they are legal... and ironically.. the only drug i have never been able to give up for any amount of time.. is tobacco
They (mushrooms) are not legal in the US. Of course that is just further proof of America's repressive, intolerant nature. As far as what kind of drugs you are on....send me a recent picture and I bet I can tell you. Without the picture, based on the brevity of your writing, I would say THC. An occasional crack weekend might not be out of the question either.... Barry
Tommy, you been watching that 'Drugland' thing on BBC2? More to the point where you in it? Some dodgy dealings going on up Bury/Salford way I can tell you...
Ugh, I would acknowledge the choice to do drugs is theres, and then appeal to making informed choices. Its a hard crowd though, a bunch of adolescents who still believe in their personal myth (that 'but it won't happen to me attitiude). But good luck and all that!
