Anyone be able to tell me how to find out how old a piece of furniture is?

I have an old dresser that got this year when my grandmother passed away and I love it. I am just curious how old it is.

Post pics, especially if it has any kind of marking, sometimes they would have names stamped on the back or underside.

Some of the best American made furniture comes from your area of the country. Take the drawers out and look inside and under for some markings from the manufacturer.

If need be you can send some pics to my stepfather. He's been dealing in antiques for over 40 years. His clients include Dick Cheney, Cal Ripkin, Governor Erlich and many others.

No names anywhere. There is a tag on the back with a name and address. I am wondering if he made it (the dovetails look handmade)? His death certificate said his occupation was manufacturing. The address is where he lived and (according to his death certificate) died. He was born in 1863, so it would have to probably have been made sometime between 1880-1920's if he made it.

The pulls (see pic) aren't orignal. I think it had knobs because there are holes behind the "tiger/man/face" on the pulls. I'm thinking maybe they were wood, but more than likely those crystal glass looking knobs. Whatever they were, I like the pulls. They are cool.

The pics don't do the dresser justice. The color is realy rich and pretty.

Looks like Cherry or another fine grained wood like it. You see all sorts of wood used in old farm furniture stuff like Sassafras so you never know. Is it solid wood? If it is and there are no cracks in it then that's pretty unusual I would think.

You should re-finish it and keep it.

Got a picture of those dovetails?

Cut it in half and count the rings.

I'm always gonna keep it. I love it.

Yeah, solid wood. Very sturdy dresser.
