Yesterday it was freezing me... even had someone comment that they have never felt central a/c that cold and today it shit itself.

It's blowing air, not cold air, but not warm... that's what alerted me to a problem then I go outside and the unit's fan is not running. I can hear a buzz, but the fan isn't moving.

Of course it's almost 90 and humid as fuck. The ceiling fans aren't cutting it and no one will be here until tomorrow (I hope or I am buying window units).

Any ideas on what the problem is? I'm thinking the motor in the fan is blown.

From what I can gather it looks as if the motor in the fan is blown.

It could be that the motor in the fan is blown.

It's fixed. My bitter half used his HVAC knowledge and fixed it. Think it was the contactor.

I take it you mean the relay?

What away to talk about the guy who saved the damsel in distress.

And just think we were all convinced motor in the fan was blown.

It was the contactor that went bad but the run capacitor was replaced as well even though it was still good... it looked pretty yucky.

They rename shit just to make it confusing :

A contactor is an electro-magnetic switching device (a relay) used for remotely switching a power or control circuit.[1] A contactor is activated by a control input which can be a lower or higher voltage / current than that which the contactor is switching. Contactors come in many forms with varying capacities and features. Unlike a circuit breaker a contactor is not intended to interrupt a short circuit current.

Is it quieter (less buzz sound) after replacing the Cap? if so then it needed replaced. Depending on the type of Cap the fact that it was "Yucky" was likely a good indication it was indeed bad.

He had it checked and it was still good. It just looked rusty to me and he replaced it. I don't care what kind of noises it makes. It's cool in here again. The unit is less than 6 years old I would guess.
