I had to help out at the clinic yesterday... to start off..when I got there, there was no parking- so as I was backing up waiting for this one car to leave...I back into some old bitches car. tiny tiny dent... I figured...her car was crap and would not notice. an hour later a cop shows up... say 4 people saw me do it. uggg did not give me a ticket, but took my license and insurance crap down, made a report. every damn dog had eaten ... even though you tell people, NO FOOD OR WATER AFTER 10PM THE NIGHT BEFORE SURGERY... so there was puke everywhere...but it was all fresh dog puke...all smelled like dog food- no big deal. Then I had a crazy white shi tzu shit all in its cage, and roll in it waking up from sedation.. it was a buthole dog, so I could not clean him up... I told the owners "hey we told you not to feed him" then we had a first- a dog almost died... she was a breeder dog, rescued, and her uterus was jacked up.. the Arab lost a suture...and she bled like hell... gums went white... was sure she was a goner. We did everything we could.. she still looked like crap , so I brought her home, gave her 15 cc of my dogs blood, fluids and the works... till about 3am, went to bed, just woke up.. and could not find her.. she is running around like nothing ever happen. So that is good. but now after work today, I have to drive an hour to take her to her house...in some town I never herd of. I guess since I have gotten used to not working... then worked like hell yesterday..my back is killing me. well anyway... just wanted to bitch for a little.. oh yeah - yesterday we spayed 8 dogs, neutered 11... spayed 18 cats, and neutered 9...and did one hernia repair, and 2 cherry eyes.. not a "busy" day for us.. but still more then what other big places do... so I am proud. oh and my dog is still pissed at me for takin his blood... he always turns into a dick for a few days whenever he gets any needle near him ... oh well he get over it.
Do dogs have the same issue as humans do with transfusions i.e. blood type? Seems a silly question I would almost be sure they do but I'm no veterinarian. I take it that house your driving an hour to is not planning on breeding the bitch?
no, dogs dont have types... back in the day you could buy blood that some soft of fancy mixed blood...and I think part was from cows. But then the price went way up... and was on back order all the time.. so 95% of vets just use another dogs blood... same for cats.. use another or cats blood. One time when my Saint Bernard was in the vet office..., they had an emergency with a Beagle, and asked if he could donate blood. They at the time only had small dogs there, and 2 big dogs with heart worms. So he gave up some blood, and they gave me a discount. those people decided to come to our location this morning to pick her up... I was very happy. yeah her breedin days are over.. no uterus. Just a reminder folks... please have your dogs on heartworm prevention... Out of like 18-20 dogs I tested today.. 6 were positive. The treatment for a heartworm positive dog is very expensive... I know that HeartGuard prevention can be costly (not as much as treating heartworms) if you want to know a less expensive heart worm preventative.. PM me..
I use Interceptor and it's not bad. Frontline is the one I hate buying. It lasts longer than 1 month though, at least the packaging says, so I do it every two months and the Interceptor each month, starting around March, which means now. Once it gets cold, I quit using both. I know they say not to, but it's cold here and my dogs are only out to poop/pee.
I was wondering that about the blood, too... Did not know that. Interesting. Makes me wonder what portion of our evolution saw fit to include the various antigens/antibody combinations.
