I apparently threw away my entire cd collection. I can't find it anywhere. They were all in one of those caselogic books.... hundreds of discs... and now they are gone and the only music I have is the "rented" shit on my Zune. I went nuts last weekend and threw away a ton of clothes and rearranged my bedroom. The case was around at that time, so I assume that I picked up the case when I was picking up all of the clothes and shoved them into a trashbag and now they are gone.

I'm pissed at myself. That was music I had for years and years. My very first CD I ever bought... a Sonic Youth CD... gone. Everything... trashed.

The shit cost money and I don't even remember what all was there to download/replace. I still have cassette tapes in a closet. I burned some of them to mp3s. I use my Zune for all of my musical needs because I love it, but I had no intention on throwing away all of those cds. Almost everything on my Zune are the albums of the discs I had, but if I cancel my membership, I lose those songs and have no backup. I didn't put them on my computer because that's boring and takes a long time.

My cd case grew legs and walked out of the basement of the last house I lived in. Had about 200 or so and I only got about half of them ripped to my computer so needless to say I was super pissed.

So I feel your pain Pukey.

How the fuck does that happen?

Cancel a membership and lose your shit?

Why the fuck did (or would) you ever buy a membership to begin with, give your computer control over your songs itself, or even allow your device the freedom to "sync" with your computer to begin with?!?

For fuck's sake, people. If you have an mp3 player, DRAG AND DROP your fucking songs into your own folders, on your device. Don't be fucking lazy - create them if need be.

Don't rely on your damn device dictate what the fuck you listen to, and for fuck's sake - NEVER grant your device or program access to reorganize your damn music.

Shit... I feel like I'm explaining politics to an Obama voter.

What music? I had nothing on my PC. All I had were discs. Any mp3 dics I had made with my old PC are gone as well. I wasn't about to rip them all to my computer. That's boring. I'm well aware of how it works and I don't care. The Zune marketplace is convenient as hell. You get 10 free mp3s a month, so you won't totally lose everything if you cancel. It's only like 15 bucks a month. Not a big deal.

Serioulsy, torrent the stuff. Unless its some rare music, most torrents have complete discographies. With a semi-good internet connection, you can get so much stuff in one day.

Ive done pretty decent using Azureus, or VUZE, whatever they call themselves now. I have picked up a lot of old stuff. the only bad thing is the discographies. I might want one or two albums, but some groups had a ton of crappy stuff in there too.

    Isn't that stuff illegal?

Zune is expanding their selection all of the time. I still can't find Randy Vanwarmer's most popular song though, damnit.

You know you can select what you want, even if its in groups, right? I use Utorrent(simple and clean interface) and if I want a few songs from a discography, I just check the stuff I want before the actual download begins.

Yeah, its illegal, but so what? There have been laws that were unethical before. Who says this isnt actually just sharing of songs? :)

I haven't bought a CD in years. I think I got Elton John's Greatest Hits on CD about 4 years ago. And thats because I didn't own an ipod to carry on my truck. Now that I do... I don't even rent movies anymore. Just steal them, put them on the IPOD and watch them on my TV. Same goes for music.

    Illegal?

It's all relative. You never break a law? I do all the time hell I say screw 1/3 of the laws out there its really a matter of good personal judgment. And personally I despise the recording industry for putting out so much commercialized crap.

My first CD ever, and keep in mind I'm getting old now, but my first was NIN head like a hole single, it had like 7 remixes of the song, and then some noise crap that was supposed to be a song and then a "bonus track" that was some dumb bitch saying "woo lets hear it for NIN, they're great".

    Good story, I know.

Halo 3, I have that one too... :)

My first CD(s) was the 2-disc DDD recording of the Fantasia soundtrack.

I think it's cool that you remember your first CD. It was a special time for me. I felt so cool having a CD. Remember those old cases they came in? Huge cardboard cases you could hang on your wall?

I actually found my first CD! It was in my old car cd holder thingy. I got a few CDs from that, just everything in the book was gone.

As far as the illegal downloading... I'm too paranoid. It's not worth getting in trouble. I'll just keep Zune marketplace forever, so I don't have to worry.
