I am bored too.. I do feel better. but now my sleep is all screwed up. I just a sleeping pill, I am going to try to go to sleep. If you are really bored.. make a fake yahoo email addy - post something silly in the personals section of craigslist. make a myspace page-
What pill? I started posting mean shit in my local paper, taunting the city councilwoman. I'll probably get banned. I should work on my family tree, but that's not sounding fun. I may just go to sleep and hope the house doesn't catch on fire, which isn't any different than any other night of my life.
Why would I sleep in the crawlspace? The water problem is fixed. Just heated the garage (where the main line comes in) to room temp and it all thawed out. My house was built in 1960. Yes, they still make houses with crawlspaces. They also build houses on concrete slabs and with basements. WTF? Mine isn't but houses that are built along the river usually don't have basements, so you will find that most people who live near a river will have a crawlspace.
Well, if it were the only place in the house that was warm, I wouldn't be all that opposed to the notion...? If I'd have known this before, I'd have suggested sleeping in the garage... no "WTF" needed! I was just curious! Different climates... Different substrates... Just curious... Jeez.
The problem wasn't the house being cold. The heater won't quit running. It's actually hot here in the bathroom.
Houses here have moved away from the crawl space. I think its more efficient and cheaper for builders to go with slabs over crawl spaces. I prefer the crawl space because if you have any issues with the foundation you can replace footings where as with a slab you are having to jackhammer the slab up.
Well and the fact that they will run plumbing and electric through the attic. Jesus. If a pipe bursts, you are double fucked. And if you don't have adequate drainage away from your house and water pools up, you will have problems there too. Which reminds me. I need gutters. I don't have them. My house thinks it's in CA.
Yea, I dont have gutters either. I need them, but too lazy to put them on... well actually I got to replace some trim first, so thats my next chore. My house was built in the 20s and has a 6ft high crawl space, there is a concrete area down there, but it is covered with some dust/dirt. 80% of the drain pipes are cast iron, and the majority of water lines are copper. I have put in new PVC in some areas (like when we redid the big bathroom) and when we redid the whole kitchen.
I'm going to pay someone to do it. I know they make gutters that come out on a big roll and they shape them or whatever. I think it's pretty quick. I wish my crawlspace was that high. You have to slither in mine. Of course, I won't go in it. I haven't been in my attic either. I've never even peeked inside it. It's going on 4 years of living there and I have no idea what could be in my attic. I have an enormous tree in my front yard. I have no idea what to do about it so I do nothing. I'm sure the roots are going to destroy something someday or a big chunk is going to fall on the house. That tree really worries me. I like the shade, but it's mammoth and scary.
Ive got a big tree in my front yard, not sure what kind it is, but the 'pine needles' are short and attached to the limb, like a christmas tree. Its probably 100ft high, it towers over the powerlines. Im not cutting it down for the same reason. It blocks the sun for about 6 hours a day. The two pines behind the house need to go though. Our attic is sweet, it is cedar, and is just sweet. no bugs or spider webs, the occasional cob web, but just neat. We did the blown in insulation in the summer of 07, and it really helped out. When we got the house it just had central heat (a big gas unit) so we replaced it with an electric heat/air unit. I like it so much more than the new houses, it has more character.
Mine is a silver maple. They grow like crazy and really fast. I have a bunch of different trees in my front yard. The pines are at the end of the driveway and I love them. I got a weeping willow, a box elder, a holly tree, a cherry tree, an apple tree, some tree I bought but can't remember the name of and it had a ton of locust trees. I love locust trees but everyone else hates them. They are brittle and branches break off, but I like them. We tried bamboo, but they died, so next year we will try again. Next tree is going to be a japanese maple. I love those trees. And a smoke tree but I don't know what color. My backyard is downhill and at the bottom is a tiny little patch of woods, but the power co. came in and cut down a bunch of my trees. That sucked. They said, "Brush removal" on the note I had to sign, "Not tree removal".
When I was at my old house...I got really into my yard- and I found myself stalking new subdivions ... just built, and steeling the freshly planted tress. They would just pop right up. I got 5 Jap Maples... 2 died my yard was awesome... I had all kinds of crap. While my X and I was in the middle of divorce... I constantly went over there while he was gone and dug shit up and planted it at my mom's house...since I was in an apartment. then 1 more of the jap maples died.. so my mom has 2 left. My x was so pissed- he would come home to big holes all over the place- they were mine dammit.
so many long post havent bothered to read them all...theres still black ice on the curb out side my house...we never get snow in b.c.
