SUV suggestions

    right now I have a Honda Element. I like it, but the stupid suicide doors are a pain in the ass when you have a baby and a kid.
    So I started looking for an upgrade. I liked the Toyota FJ Cruiser. went to test drive one...and dammit -they have the same type of doors. Then hubby said - what about a Land Rover- so I test drove one- for like 2 hours : ) I loved it, but then every person I know and consumer reports says they are fucked up- and not reliable.

    any suggestions of a cool suv that is kinda in the same class- look wise....and not a Hummer- My dad and sister both have H2s... and they suck. and H3s are stupid. And hell no - I would never drive a mini van.

    I really like the RangeRover HSE. Im not paying 70k+ for an SUV though.

    If you like the Element, which is kinda odd looking, why not just move up to a CR-V or Pilot?
    Then you get the Honda dependability and mileage.

    The ford escape Hybrid has the highest mpg in its class I believe

    All the fancy imports are going to get sucky mileage, to say the least. The Mercedes is sweet, and less expensive than the LandRover. Mercedes also makes a nice 'crossover' I think its like the C350 or something, kind of looks like a chrysler pacifica.

    There are a ton of options. Depending on what you feel like spending and what you are looking for. Driving the Element makes me thing 'Cost Weary and Reasonable', considering the Landrover (retarded price tag) and FJ (retarded mileage) kind of throws you into a different group.

    So what are you looking for, practical or MILF?

    I forgot the New Tahoe, this thing is SWEET.

    With active fuel management you can get 25mpg easily, plus it looks pretty damn good. The girl I work with that has one has a Black LS, with 20"s and tinted windows, looks damn good. Plus the ride is quite comfortable and the transition through running cylinders is seemless.

    I actually went drove a crew cab silverado after driving her tahoe, unfortunately the chevy cant get the ooomph to pull my camper.

    What is MILF?

    I am not concerned with gas mileage.
    The landrover I test drove was only like 40k - maybe is was a range rover. hell I dont know. I love the FJ>.. but the doors are retarded. I am supposed to buy a car this weekend... and I have no idea what in the hell I want.

    its all I have ever had since I was like 20 or so.
    I have 2 kids, have a business- although I dont do business in my car- I still have to buy bulk/mass supplies for it, my auto is also used as advertising the business- and I do use it for transport sometimes for rescues that use us. oh - and I got a big fat ass. so I do need a big auto to haul it around in.

    The Land Rover LR3 is the boxy one, the Range Rover is the one more laid back looking (its the 70k one).

    The MILF comment is the difference in a Hyundai Sante Fe and Yukon Denali.

    The Denali is another 'sweet' option. It comes loaded out pretty good, and I believe you can get into one for the mid 40s (with 3rd row seat available in case you shoot out some more spawn).

    Since MPG is my last concern, I pull a 10,000 lbs 34 Foot TT (14 ft super slide).
    With a Ford Crew-Cab 4X4 7.3L powerstroke - no trailer is 18 mpg with the trailer 14 mpg.

    Work car gets 10 mpg in the city 15 mpg on the Interstate, it's a 2008 Ford P71 Crown Vic. Fully Load.

    Don't rush into buying a car - ever. The dealership catches that 'necessity' blip on their radar, and they know they won't even have to lube it up before they bend you over and service your account.

    Im glad you reminded me of that- I do tend to just walk up to someone and say - " I want a car today- I like this one-"

    Im not a typical woman when it comes to shopping- I want it done fast and over with.

    My biggest gas guzzler - 30ft class C Coachman Toy Hauler 2006 - that has been converted into a mobile spay neuter clinic. Loaded down with stainless steel cages, tables, and industrial floor. I dont even want to try to figure out how much gas it drinks per gal.

    You have to play their game when you buy a car. The 'must have it right now' M.O. has probably worked well for you in the past in different endeavors, but when it comes to buying a car, you have to adopt the mindset of "Well, I've kind of been thinking about getting a new car, but I'm not sure..."

    Make them work for their commission. And research the dealer holdback on your vehicle, vs. how long it's actually been on their lot. Chances are, they're going to rob you blind by not mentioning to you that the manufacturer lines their pockets with the dealer holdback, and if you're hoping to trade something else in, woo-hoo... they can have a field day with you. Let's say that the bluebook value of your trade-in is $10K. They'll happily tell you that, and at the same time, take into account, the $4-6K they'll make in selling you said vehicle, and try to pull you into that 'negotiation room' and boast that they're willing to offer you 1-2K more than the typical trade-in value on your present car (because they are making it up when they lube up that sales pitch on the new ride for ya...)

    Do quite a bit of research before you go out and buy a car on a whim. You'll be surprised how much you save, and I've always taken quite a bit of satisfaction from the facial expressions of the salesperson at the dealership when he/she finally realizes that you're going to pay a fair price for a new vehicle, and he's not going to get his typical, asinine commission on it because he showed you where the airbags were.

    I'd be interested in purchasing said vehicle for the sole purpose of cruising the streets, narrowing out human subjects that have no business donating genetic material to future generations, and forcefully allowing them clemency within said vehicle, while their gonads are stripped from them.

    What are you asking for it?

    I pull a 32ft TT (two slides) 06 Dutchmen with my F250.

    My main concern isnt MPG, it's MONEY. As in I can keep 500.00 in my pocket (a month) by driving my Acura that I can piss away on other things.

    Dont forget the interest. I love it when they ask me "What are you looking to pay a month"

    This is a blunder for a lot of people. They say, 'oh id like to stay in the 325-350 range' boom they got you.

    So now they go do their 'deal' crap. They run your credit and say, "hey we got you at 355" and most people think, 'well its only 5.00s' what I like to do is just say, "what interest rate is it at?"

    Say the bank approves you at 2.99% on a used car, but they fit you in your payment window of 350 at 6.99%, so you think you are happy because you are getting it for what you wanted to pay, monthly. Well the dealer actually gets that extra 4% every month, or maybe they get a lump, who knows. If they can get you to sign at a higher interest rate they keep the difference. This is on top of all the dealer incentives.

    Dealers get more than just the advertised incentives when they stock their lots. Let say vehicle A is a hot property, you cant keep them on the lot, the markup is there and everyone in the car business is making money. The manufacturer is going to make a lot of these cars and fewer of vehicle B which is just like vehicle A minus a v-8 and hood scoop. So dealer 'cocksmokincarsales' orders 12 vehicles As 'at normal cost' the manufacturer will throw in 1 or 2 of vehicles Bs to sweeten the pot. When I say throw in I mean free. Thats how ridiculous the markup is.

    A friend of mines dad ran a local ford dealership, they would order a truckload of Mustang GTs and Ford would give them 1 or 2 Mustang LX (non-v-8s) free. This was back in the early 90s when they were the square ones. He was a good resource for information on leases, markups, trade-ins and all.

    The dealer ship makes money coming and going. Most people trade because they 1) Dont want to deal with the hassle of selling their car 2) Owe way more than it's worth 3) Just want a new car so bad they dont care how bad they get screwed on the old one

    Case in point. A couple of weeks ago we stopped by the local Toyota dealer to look at a replacement for my Acura. My daughter will be 16 in 4 years so we are thinking we would get something economical, reliable, and safe, then in 4 years we give her the car as her first. We would know all the service records on it, and there wouldnt be any suprises from buying her a used one. So we went in to look at the Corolla S and the Scion Tc. We were told by the dealer that Tc stood for 'toyota celica' so that was funny. The scion had lots of features 'standard' that the corrola in base trim didnt the S is the sport version that has a lot more standard on it. As we were leaving this couple was looking at a Carrola and a Camry, and the guy asks, 'can I get your opinion?' Sure we said.

    I can get the Carrolla for 11k, or I can get the camry for 14k which would you do?

    As we talked to them we learned that it was the difference after their trade. Which was an 07 Carrola that he said was 'too small'. When he told us the 'prices' I thought he was getting a helluva deal, after learning that he was taking a ripping on his 07 I learned how bad a deal it was. They were giving him 10 for an 07 with no miles. Which they would intern put on the lot for 16,999 and tell everyone how much of a good deal it was since the new ones were 21k.

    I told the guy, in front of his salesman, "hey, why dont you sell me the 07 for 11k and then you can just come purchase whichever one you like" the salesman about fell down.

    Its ridiculous how some people just go in oblivious to the obvious. They are trying to screw you as hard and as fast as they can. They hate you and want to take advantage of you anyway possible. Thats why they always offer drinks to you now, so they can slip you a rufi.

    Exactly. Car payments are a pain in the ass. My car has been paid off for 4 years and I'm driving it until the wheels fall off and then I'll just fix it and drive it some more.

    NEVER trade your car. They love to do trades so they can lowball you for your trade, not go down on the new car price much (because they are using your trade like it's some kind of discount and it is totally not) and then they have your car to sell and make money from.

    WAIT until the end of the month to buy too. They will be more likely to deal then.

    I never trade in, In the past I would drive a crap car till it was crappier- then give it to my mom or brother or sell it on craigslist or in the paper. This time the isnt crap its a paid off 2005 with high miles around 93k. Before I got preggers- I did lots of traveling. Got addicted to casinos - did many trips from Atlanta - to Biloxi


    I dont mean to sound like im rich or anything- by saying I dont care about MPG. My husband would shit if saw that. Truth is, I have a business credit card that is used JUST for gas, so I dont pay it. so yeah I really dont care.

    I know they rip you off with trade ins. few months ago I looked into trading in, they offered crap. and they think since its paid off you take anything for it.

    I was going to shop for a car today- but I am having the worst period in the world. So my crampy grumpy bloody ass is stayin home.

    I haven't had a period in almost 6 months and my gyno doesn't care as long as I have one on my own at least twice a year, so in your FACE! :p

    I am kinda partial to Nissans these days. Have you looked at any of them?

    I did see a VW Eos yesterday and I really liked it but it was a coupe. Just wanted to share.

    you suck- this is the worst period I have had in years. Actually today we were shopping for a new mattress set, and I bleed on one. gross. I guess this period is making up for the past year. It is my first one in over a year.... 9 mo pregnant- now baby is almost 5 months.


    I like Nissans , I had an Extera a few years ago... wow - a guess a long time ago, the first year they came - I think. but hubby hates all things Nissan for some reason.

    You bled on the one at the store?

    I kinda like the crossovers better than the SUVs but I would get a sedan if I needed a 4 door vehicle.
