quote:
Originally posted by unlimited-time: Dont care what anyone says Dean Martin fuckin rules!!!!!!!

I must say I have to agree. He's the best of the original 'Brat pack' And I've often thought of dropping a sample of Memories are made of this into one of my sets... But so far I've never had the balls! Might get away with it at a private party I spose... But I'll probably get beaten up and thrown out!!! We can't be the only 'young ones' ( well I like to think I'm still young! ) who like Dean Martin, can we? The Rat Pack consisted of Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop. They began working together in January of 1959. At Capitol studios Sinatra conducted the orchestra for Sleep Warm, Dean's new album. Some Came Running was playing in theaters across the US starring Dean, Sinatra and Shirley MaClaine {who was an honorary member of the Pack}, and on January 28 Sinatra joined Dean for the first time on stage at the Sands. In 1960 they began filming Oceans Eleven by day and playing the Sands together at night. Dean, Sinatra and Lawford also bought shares in the Cal-Neva Hotel in Lake Tahoe, soon after the FBI began investigating mob ties to the hotel. Not wanting to be involved Dean pulled out of the deal, he would let Sinatra pay him for performing at the hotel and make out better that way. They were in another movie called Sergeants 3 and their final movie together was Robin and the Seven Hoods, while filming that movie on November 22, 1963 the then president John F. Kennedy was assasinated in Dallas, Texas. The end of Camelot was the end of the Rat Pack, the carefree days of high hopes and partying were done. At one time or another Sinatra, who acted as leader of the Pack, would turn on and cut off other members of the Pack. Lawford was cut off when Sinatra had extended an invitation to John F. Kennedy to stay at his home in Palm Springs, Bobby Kennedy had heard rumors of mob ties and didnt think it was a good idea to have the President staying at Sinatras home, Frank was furious and because Lawford was married to Pat Kennedy, he blamed him and cut him out of his life never speaking to him again. Sammy Davis Jr. would be the next to be cut off, Davis was using drugs and Sinatra couldnt understand that Davis had a problem and needed help, they reunited later and would do a Rat Pack tour in 1988. Deans turn came in 1988 when the Pack was touring, his failing health and the death of his son were taking a toll on Dean, his heart wasnt in the tour, Sinatra replaced Dean with Liza Minnelli and never spoke to Dean again. Dean passed away on December 25, 1995, and Sinatra was quoted as saying he wished he had a chance to say goodbye to his old friend but he was too stubborn to give in. Sinatra passed away May 15, 1998. Joey Bishop the only surviving member of the Rat Pack said of Dean's death " The Angels got a wonderful Christmas present". ... And Dean was the hit with the ladies... He put 'ol Frankie to shame!
And a poke in the eye with a sharp stick for anyone who knows what film this pic is taken from. One of my faves. Dean and Sammy play the best parts in that movie, funny as hell!
Speaking of getting poked in the eye with something sharp... Old girl's still holding up pretty damn well, IMO:
