So I am having this debate over cable theft...

What do you guys think of this:

Cable company comes out and hooks up cable. They neglect to put in the filter that blocks out expanded channels, thus person has been getting more channels than they are paying for due to cable company's negligence.

    Would you consider that theft?

Another persons negligience does not justify receiving services without paying for it. It is the same as getting too much change back in a purchase. If you keep it after finding the mistake, it's stealing.

It would be easy to justify why it's not a problem to use the service. Bottom line, the definition of honesty is "doing what is right when no one is looking."

You're probably paying for several channels that you don't watch anyway so it sort of equals out.

I agree with the Maj, I dont get a discount for not watching Oxygen, or BET (sorry dwaine), but do I get a discount because I dont use these channels? So if they charge me for something I dont use, isnt that like stealing? Its for this same reason that I think file sharing should be more than acceptable.

How many CDs have you bought, and only listened to 2-3 songs, and paid full price for the CD?

How many movies have you gone to where the advertisement tricked you into thinking the movie was 1) light hearted 2) scarey 3) Action Packed and it wasnt? It turned out to be a 9.25 piece of crap? Do they give you your money back cause their movie sucked? They lured you in under false pretenses they should be held accountable.

The commercial showed the guy riding around in an Eclipse with a hot chick with him, do you think a Mitsubishi Eclipse will help get you some action? It doesnt have the same Magnet as the Hummer.......

I agree 100% with the "how many movies or albums have you bought full price that was a huge steaming pile of joe?"
they won't give you your money back, so I am a full advocate for file sharing. If it s a good album, or movie, I will goto bestbuy on release day and buy it. Im sick of the hollywood set all shaken up because they can't buy a newer private jet because of music sharing. What about the average person who works 40+ hours, then buys there kids a DVD or CD? I give out a ton of disney DVD's to my friends with a clan of rugrats. I have one freind with 7 kids, no insurance, and two of his kids are VERY brittle type 1 diabetics. He spends over $200 a week on test strips. He can't take the little bastards to the theater when every new movie comes out. This way they can watch the movies, then if the fuck up the disk, big fucking deal.

You guys remember when cassette tapes came out and the recording industry was crying it would be the end of the recording industry?

They are a bunch of pampered dueche bags. The only CDs I pick up are of new artists. I just remember that cartoon with Metallica and hatfield kept going 'NAPSTER BAAAAAADDDDD'. Like they havent made enough money for their great grandkids to retire already.

I actually downloaded a song that someone got off of XM. I thought that was pretty neat. I listen to 48 on XM a lot, "The Squizz", it's a pretty good channel, cant listen to it with the kids in the car though.

If I see a new band I really like, I'll pay for the disc. It's my small contribution to furthering their careers. Otherwise, if I want one song only, I might..........well I can't say. I don't want some G-man visiting me in 5 years to arrest me for stealing.

When cable hit the market about 80 few people had it but it's popularity went through the roof because quite simply because TV seemed free but you paid for it with annoying commercials. Cable now get this kids was commercial less. Which is why you paid for it with a monthly bill in the first place.

    That did not last long.

The cable company deserves what it gets.

This might seem silly, but I get pissed at HBO when they have an hour long show that only lasts like 47 minutes. Then they run their commercials about movies or shows that they are gonna show. Ive got a channel guide, I dont need to be constantly reminded whats coming on at 8, 10, 11. I know back before we used to get those little HBO books, then we had the 'tv guide' channel. I am cool with just using the 'guide' button on my cable remote.

I don't think it's stealing.... not when they give their employees free cable and internet and charge their customers out the ass for it.

And we are talking all channels (except HD and some sports packages) so they get all the movie channels and the highest speed internet for nada. Hell, thet may get their phone free as well.
