whats your point joe? that according to that website it'll be cloudy tonight?.. wtf does that matter.. the sun ain't up anymore.. i'm indoors (obviously)... i just said we had beautiful blue skies and sunshine today.. and yesterday
It was 80 degrees Tuesday here and looked like one of those snow ball things that you shake up yesterday.
We had sleet here (Lower Alabama) this weekend (like hail, but smaller.) I haven't seen snow here since 1995 and this is the first sleet I can remember since moving here.
sleet has a different meaning over here.. snow thats patially melted on the way down... and it's cloudy and a bit blowy today (i'm blaming joe ) but every now and then i glance out and see blossoms falling like snow
but don't you live in washington DC?.. that isn't really part of the USA.. in the US sleet is small hail apparently.. wikipedia told me
I think Maj was trying to use sleet as the best description for something that technically was not hail and turned to wet mush after hiting the warmer ground. But what do I know.
The polar air outbreak that began Thursday reached the bottom this morning, when temperatures dropped to 21 degrees at 7 a.m. at Charlotte/Douglas International Airport. That not only broke the low-temperature record for the date, but it was the coldest for any April day in Charlotte history. Play (snow)ball! After a frosty first week, baseball quickly made a move for warmth and shifted the Los Angeles Angels' series against the Indians from Cleveland to an enclosed field in Milwaukee. That didn't do much good for Indians fans on Monday. For the fourth straight day, games were wiped out by snow at Jacobs Field, sending the Seattle Mariners packing without playing an inning that counted. All of a sudden, players are tracking snowfall and wind chill with the same interest as balls, strikes and outs. "It's stupid. It's crazy," Indians pitcher C.C. Sabathia said. "We should definitely be starting somewhere else, definitely on the West Coast or somewhere with a dome so this doesn't happen." An extra-cold winter on the Alaska Peninsula has frozen sea otters out of the bay and pushed them onto the tundra near Port Heiden where they're easy prey for wolves, humans and hunger.
Actually I was being a bit of a smart ass. Read the parenthetical passages in your best mental Stuart Smalley voice-over. I assumed you all knew what sleet was. Now repeat after me: "I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and, doggone it, people like me.
We had a good bit of cold but no moisture for sleet or ice. Of course I was in Canada, Niagra Falls NY, Buffalo, and Manhattan the last two weeks. So I could actually see 30s being quite comfortable....
Gobal warming aside. Who in their right mind wants to live in a place where the sky is never blue and cancer rates and all kinds of respiratory disorders like asthma rates are increased and COPD is exacerbated. The argument that it cost too much money to bring down pollution is complete bullshit. The technology that goes into creating cleaner cars and factories is a business in of itself. I can't stand pollution in the water or in the air. It just goes to show that the average business dipshit doesn't know anything about science, health or medicine. They get some kind of kick out of poking fun of people who have any foresight in trying to limit pollution. They are the reason the US has so much pollution and urban sprawl. When you fly over the US in a plane it is getting to where all you see is development. The cities need to build up and not out. What is done cannot be undone and that is why I have not voted Republican lately.
