So I ordered a new laptop I got a Dell 1705. I love the hardware great top. But the only choice of OP I had was Vista to get the price on the top. I figured what the hell it can't be that bad.

Fuck me. I should have known when it booted up and I saw an Analog clock on the desktop and the old digital clock in the taskbar something was a miss. I mean 2 clocks on the desktop? Come the fuck on. So anyway I started screwing around with it. Well it's a pretty piece of shit I can say that much. It's basically if Mac OSX had Sex with Windows XP and they had a Retarded fucking baby.

The start bar isn't even a start bar anymore they list all your shit oh and you can't sort it in anyway so it's all just there in random order. They gave us a nice little search bar. TO SEARCH FOR YOUR FUCKING PROGRAMS. Instead of just looking and saying hey there it is in ORDER. You have to hunt it by word or scrolling thru every fucking thing on your harddrive.

Also it's so dumbed down it's fucking hard to use. They renamed shit that didn't need to be renamed and reorder it so finding it is a pain in the ass. I actually had to use windows help to find and launch Defrag...........

Fucking run and hide from this POS. I'm installing a clean copy of xp when i get home fuck this shit.

Oh and the MAC ad isn't making shit up either. Every time I want to do anything it asks me if I allow or deny. It freezes the fucking computer and asks in a big fucking box. Oh and the great Flip 3d thing. yeah I have to push a 3 button Chinese pretzel shortcut to get it to go in it. Then you scroll and select the window you want and it brings it to the top.

Yeah great.......I could have just moused down to the task bar and selected the fucking window I wanted and saved me a finger cramp and about 10 seconds.

    What is Vista?

Is it a new type of blow up doll?

It sounds like a computer gizmo.

Does it run on a MAC?

    Can you cook with it?

Is it compatible with Wordperfect 3?

New windows Operating System to replace Xp

    No it's not a fuckdoll

    yes it's a gizmo

    It runs on certain macs

Yes you can, but then your computer is pretty useless after you deposit foodstuffs into it

Why would you want to run wordperfect 3 in the first place?

Oh yeah its already got loads flaws too. Did you hear the one about where someone can gain control of PC by launching a sound sample with voice commands in it and if your mic is enabled and within pickup range of your speakers, the voice recog part of vista will run user commands, like copy, paste and shutdown.

    Vista is a joke.

We hired a new chick at work and got her a new computer that came with Vista. I had my first chance at it while I tried to install some 'warez. I was unimpressed at the start because of how slow it runs. It's a RAM hog, needing a Gig to run and, as Grim stated, that "Allow/Deny" window is a pain in the ass. It pops up for all kinds of inane shit. It's like an old grandparent who means well but constantly says, "you're gonna break your neck, be careful!" Shut up, already. I can't yet get it to connect with my XP machines on the network (access is denied) and I had to re-learn how to get to network properties to configure it to begin with. The interface, compared to XP which I finally got the hang of, is clumsy. Like Grim alluded, there are new categories and you have to guess what is where. Maybe when its 2nd service pack is released and they work some more bugs out, it will get better. Right now, I'd like to remove it and put XP Home on the new CPU.

    What?????

I just upgraded to XP last month, and I'm behind the curve again?

I swear I liked Win98 SE best of all. If I could have stopped Dwaine from hacking it all the time, I would have kept it by-gawd.

And I actually use Word Perfect 12. I know everybody else uses Word, but I HATE WORD. WP12 gives me no problems.

They want us to sample Vista here in the office, after I had to set up the ma-in-law got it on her new Dell and it is F'd up. Looks nice though. Im not sure why I need two different TCPIP protocols though. Maybe I should actually look into it some.

apart from a few wee things that are actually great improvements, you can easily get XP to look and act just like 98... i was really sceptical of XP before i actually tried it.. but once i disabled the ugly theme service i soon learned to love it

Well I'm stuck with it for now. I need the raid drivers to install Xp back and a floppy drive which I don't have an external for my laptop I tried a thumb drive but no help.

The thing about the start menu bugs the shit out of me. It worked great since 95 why go and change it too something more complicated. Like today I was looking for defrag I typed in defrag into the search it didn't come up. I scrolled thru and found the access folder. But I typed in the name just to see and everything but that folder showed up.

I find myself doing like I did in windows 3.1 going into my C drive and hunting the folder I want. It's quicker then using that silly bar. It's pretty as it can be it's just now useful.
