Yes, folks... I think it might be about time to sell my (massive) video game collection, along with many of the other random electronics/etc. I have scattered around the house.

    My question is this:

In regards to games, would it be better to list each game and system individually, or bundle them together and hope for the best? We're talking video game systems all the way from the 2600 to the Dreamcast (not quite ready to sell anything newer)... I've got duplicates of almost all the systems, and with the exclusion of PSX, DC, and Saturn, duplicates of (some) individual games.

With the age of emulation upon us, I just don't see the need to devote shelf after shelf for storage of games that I can pull up from a menu anymore. The original attraction was having everything original, I.E. the boxes, booklets, etc... but I've come to the realization that I'd rather devote the space these objects take up towards other things.

Here are some pictures I took several years ago, and this was before I really got out of hand...

Since then, I've had to store shit in boxes...

Thoughts? Suggestions? (Besides seeing a shrink... That's coming...)

You think it's time to sell? It's funny you should decide this shortly after announcing your engagement. Hmm.

    We shall always overcome. :p

If you want to get rid of those any NES systems let me know. The local shops here have them but they are beat to crap and back. I think my son would love some of those old games. I think ExciteBike and Metroid would have to be favorites....LOL. Of course being 5 he would probably love duck hunt.....

I would also list them seperate, to get more money, it might take longer, but you will see more return for your time. Maybe 3 packs of games or system/game bundles.

Or you could just open a store. Turn your hobby/passion into a money making business....LOL.

Maturity is a slavemaster, no? I warned you.

Selling all your childhood is a sure step on the path to Fatherhood.

    But,
Skip the shrink Lomo. Growing up is normal. It usually happens for Men around age 28. You are about there aren't you?

piece it out on e-bay you will make more money and think about Phats suggestion. Don't go rent space to start a business but if you experiment with your advertisement and how much you can get you may find it quite profitable.

Never even played Maniac Mansion, but I'm sure I've still got the Nintendo Power issue with it on the cover... ;)

Mystic Quest? Never played it - most of the games I got that aren't on the shelves were acquisitions from work, impossible to play them all, y'kno. Oh yeah, fuck you. ;)

I like the idea of selling them individually - but I can't even imagine how time-consuming that would be...

Only problem with selling NES systems online is that the scene is flooded by these cheap imitations that aren't even compatible with all the games released, including a few really good ones. This has brought the prices down on the systems.

The amazing thing about women, though - they keep you in check, and as everyone can see by the pictures, I've been 'out-of-check' for a while now... :?

Besides, if and when we move, I'll be dealing with a lot less personal space, and there comes a point where it becomes too costly to hold on to everything... :(

i had a letter printed in nintendo power when i was in fourth grade. i forget what it was about--some secret code for some game i figured out. they put my name in there and all though. i was so proud. you should look through all your old issues and see if you see my name.

Thats funny. If it was in the first 34 issues or so I have it. I had a subscription when it first came out. Starting with the Super Mario cover on the first one. Damn that was a long time ago. They are now in a box with my comics. But no one liked my comic collection anyways. For some reason ROM and Sgt. Rock didnt go over too well. Of course I have transformers from number 4 to like 75. I didnt get the first three originally, and I never went and bought them outside my normal trips to the 7-11. I do have a few GI Joes, but they sucked compared to Sgt. Rock people actually got killed in Sgt Rock comics, well cartoon people....

Do you have an old Atari 2600?

Is this going to be like the scene from The 40 Year Old Virgin?

Not quite ready to get rid of Xbox stuff just yet... I'm mainly interested in liquidating systems and games that are easily emulated - the idea is to put everything I ever owned (or wanted to) onto a single computer, and have it hooked up to the TV. No more hardware problems, no more dirty contacts or edge connectors, no blowing on the cartridges to fix the blinking screen, no more losing saved games because the battery gave out, no more searching through box after box for 'that game I know I have but can't find'... etc. You get the idea.

Maybe this is part of the way I cope with the loss of all this stuff. I'll only have lost it tangibly, but for all intents and purposes, it'll always be here and playable.

Oh, and for the record, I'll be keeping R.O.B. - (at least one of him...)

Wouldn't want to have a Transformers complex, now...
