I just activated a new cell phone that allows downloadable ringtones, etc, and as a 'newbie' to these things, I thought I'd ask...

How do I go about getting decent free ringtones? I've heard of programs that allow you to create your own ringtones, and would love to do this.

    Suggestions?

(The phone is a Motorola V551, and my carrier is Cingular, if that helps)

I basically want to get some decent ringtones and don't want to pay a single fucking dime. Is that too much to ask?

Met a guy once that had a phone that would cluck like a chicken I thought that was great. Another guy has a special ring for his wifes calls and the display read Motormouth. That was vaguely amusing. Made mine play Crazy Train but it got really old really quick. I wish mine would cluck like a chicken.

Does you phone have infrared? My nokia does, and comes with a free download called 'PC Suite' motorola has a similar product, you can sink up your calendar and contacts and what not off your pc. My phone plays MP3s so I just used a free download to hack about 15 seconds out of my favorite MP3s and then beamed them over to my laptop. It kicks ass.

I still need to find that clint eastwood showdown music. You know that shit they play in the westerns when he is about to kill somebody.

You must be talking about "The Good The Bad and The Ugly" I personally think his best western. The famous whistle \ yodel sound part part when he is in the three meet up at the grave yard and possibly a few other places in the movie.

    Aaaaay! wha wha wha.

I would like to have that also and there was a soundtrack my parents had the record when I was a kid.

This particular phone doesn't do MP3s, which was one of the things I was kinda holding out for when I picked a new phone, but I just couldn't resist buying it used when it was packaged in a bag with another identical phone, one leather case, four AC/DC chargers, and a headset for 99 cents...

I didn't sign any contract, either - because I supplied the phone, so I can upgrade to a new phone any time and not have any penalty.

This phone will play (polyphonic?) "midi" ringtones, and has this program installed called "motomixer" or something that lets you create your own ringtones. I see that they offer a USB cable attachment, but I'm going to have to do some research to see if it will allow you to take pictures off the phone before I buy it.

do a goggle for a USB info cable, you can get them and a ringtone master CD for your PC online for under $20. if you goto the ghetto cell marts they sale them for $40. If its a Poloymorphic ring, you can just comouse the ringtones by goggling your phonrr, and rintonrd, with a little over a hours labor, you can add the notes to play your favite MIDI jamz!...

I dont know if you have a laptop or not, but my nokia with PC SUITE, allows me to IR stuff back and forth. I did the Clint Eastwood AU this AM, I converted it to MP3 and now it is my ringtone. It sounds pretty good too.

26 seconds is pretty long for a ring tone, but in MP3 format it wasnt very big KB wise. They make a USB dongle for my phone but it wasnt included, so that might be a selling point.

I have been pretty okay with Nokia, I have only had one Motorola and it was a good phone, but for the money, I still like my nokia. Plus the car charger I had 8 years ago, still works with my new nokia.
